Was already rejected ED from Dartmouth so my hopes are kinda down. Not even a deferral c'mon bruhhhh

So yeah chance me :)

If you’ve been rejected from Dartmouth ED I’ll be honest and say that Harvard and U Penn probably aren’t on the likely side. Cornell, Duke, Williams, and Georgetown are all going to be in the middle in my opinion. To be honest I’m kinda surprised you weren’t accepted to Dartmouth given your profile but taking that into account nothing besides UVA, UNC, and BC seem like sure bets. Go over your essays again and see if you can improve them substantially because I don’t think you should be getting rejected from Dartmouth, especially ED.

Yeah Harvard and Princeton are kinda just “why not” schools. My parents pushed me to apply so why not (hence the name). I honestly don’t know what I did wrong but I think it’s because Dartmouth gets boners valedictorians and salutatorians and I don’t believe I was near the top 20 due to my freshman year grades. Thanks for the advice my friend

BUMP

Dartmouth accepted someone from my school with a 3.9 Weighted GPA (Valedictorian has 4.5) and somewhat low SAT score. He was neither a minority nor a legacy. He is not a first generation immigrant. He had his fathers legal counsel write his college essay for him. You should take another peek at your essay!

That’s crazy! It’s a little late now but I’ll definitely check over my essays. Thanks for the advice!

I’m very familiar with all the NC schools and would bet you will get into Duke. UNC is actually a little trickier because of their mandate to take mostly NC residents, but you are certainly what they are looking for. Congrats on all your accomplishments!

For '19 RD, Duke is likely to be a SUBSTANTIAL REACH; you’re well qualified, however:

 • About 20,000 of your competitors will be similarly distinguished;
 • The RD acceptance rate will approximate 8 percent;
 • 48 percent of '19 has already been selected through ED.

I do not suggest your RD admission is an impossibility – not at all – but the odds are not favorable (as the foregoing data indicates).

I got deferred from Georgetown and I’m actually quite shocked that I didn’t get rejected. To be honest, I earn average grades and I got a really low SAT score (I swear I’m not a dumbass) so I didn’t expect to be given a second chance. But recently I checked on their website and it says applicants should take the SAT subject tests and I even called the admissions office but they said it was optional. Do you guys know if anyone has ever got accepted even though they didn’t take the SAT subject tests? Also, is there anything else I could possibly send for them to consider me?

@kenunot14‌: I can’t address Georgetown per se, but at other most-selective universities the Subject Tests are meaningful (obviously, that’s why they are required at many first tier institutions). Here’s the essential question you should consider: will you be admitted to Georgetown without a potential Subject Test “boost?” Based on your comments in #8, I suspect your honest answer would be NO. If I’m correct, it seems that you have a lot to gain, and very little to lose, by taking the Subject Exams.

You don’t know how bad your rejection from Dartmouth makes me feel…ugh

You have a fair shot at all those reaches, but its strange that D’mouth rejected you ED with your stats.

Chance?

Are you not planning to play soccer in college? Have you spoke to the coaches? With the narrow margins you are dealing with, it could be the edge and traction that would distinguish you from much of the pack. If you have not already, I would communicate with the coaches and get some film to them right away.
