Chance me for Northeastern, Drexel, Boston University, and University of Texas Austin

Hey guys,

Can you chance me for Northeastern, Drexel, BU, UT (In-State), and Texas A&M (Also In-State)? I am only a Junior, and have yet to take the SAT. The given SAT scores are a rough estimate based on my PSAT, but obviously that could end up being better or worse.

So, on top of chancing me, if some of these schools are a little out of my reach, please tell me why. I would like to take these next two years to put myself in a better position to be accepted!

Desired Major: Computer Science

GPA: 3.5 UW, 4.5 W
Class Rank: Top 10% (820 something kids, academically competitive public school)
SAT Scores: (Again, hypothetically, if these were my legit SAT scores) Math: 560, Writing:640, Reading: 680, Composite: 1880
AP Scores: AP Human Geo (Freshman): 5, AP World History (Sophomore): 4, (Taking AP US History and AP English III this year)

Course Load: All Pre-AP (Honors) or AP
Senior Year: Will most likely be taking AP Physics, AP Calc AB/BC, AP English IV, (Don't know what Social Study I will be taking, but it will be AP or Pre-AP)

ECs:

Mu Alpha Theta

Junior Classical League

Most likely will be in National Honor Society this year (Was not invited last year due to a concussion at the end of Freshman year that literally made my grades plummet)

~100 CS hours (Don't have an exact number.. Not stand out, but enough to be relevant)

Designed and wrote 2 websites (Working on starting my own business designing websites for people in my community)

Destination Imagination for 10 years (Went on to the State competition)

Varsity Ice Hockey Team as a Sophomore

Leadership Roles: Ice Hockey Captain on 2 different teams (5 time Alternate, which is basically the same thing leadership wise)

Played Baseball for 7 years, Ice Hockey for 13

I was thinking Texas A&M would be a safety school, but I haven't done enough research to be sure. I also think I will apply to either Princeton or Yale as a super reach school (If I get some freakishly good score on the SAT). What do you think?

Thanks for reading!

Northeastern: high match / low reach
BU: high match / low reach
UT Austin: high match
Drexel: mid match
Texas A&M: low match / safety

Really try to get 600+ on each section of the SAT. Also, I wouldn’t advise applying to a school at the caliber of Yale unless you can get support from the athletic department for ice hockey.

Good luck! :)

Thanks for the feedback! As for Yale, I was thinking I would do it just to do it, expecting to get denied. But I don’t know if I will actually do it when it comes time to apply. I was just throwing around school ideas, and Yale and Princeton came up because I have uncles that went there.

Glad to see my 5 real choices are pretty solid though!

Anyone else have an opinion?

Northeastern: Low reach
BU: Low reach/ high match
UT Austin: Match
Drexel: Match
Texas A&M: Match

Thank you! One more thing, what do you guys think of Wesleyan as a mid to high reach? Do I have even the smallest shot of getting in? What do you think?

Have you taken the ACT or SAT Subject tests? Either one or the other are required for Wesleyan. If yes,

Wesleyan University: Reach

I am taking the SAT this year, and I will be taking the ACT (Senior year? Or is ACT also Junior year). Thanks for the input!

Texas A&M is a great safety, considering that with your class ranking you have automatic admissions (at least, that’s what I’ve been told about the school)

Northeastern: Low reach (it’d be a high match if the SATs come out all right, good luck!)
Drexel: Match
BU: Match
I’m from the northeast, so I can only say what I know about these schools. Try to go 2100 plus, as that will open you some doors to higher institutions, or give you scholarship opportunities!

You could take the SAT and ACT as a junior… even as a freshman if you want. You could take it any time is what I’m trying to say.

As an in state student not in top 7 percent, with your current projections UT is a reach school. If when you apply you are in tOp 7percent, UT is auto admit school so your ranking becomes super important for that school.

Ya, I understand the whole 10%/7% stuff. I am hoping to get my class rank up (I moved up 50 or so spots sophomore year). Would be nice to have a school like UT as my safety!

Getting into UT isn’t too big of a deal for me though. I want to go to school in the Northeast if I can. Really, the only way I could see myself going to school in Texas is if UT is the best school I get into, or I completely strike out and only get into A&M.

Anybody else?
