Chance me for NYU CAS/Stern

My cumulative unweighted GPA is 3.95 for my Freshman and Sophomore year.

I am currently a Junior, and my first quarter grades were all As, so I am CURRENTLY averaging an unweighted 4.0 (hopefully I keep this up the whole year!).

I have taken 3 Honors classes Freshman year, 3 Honors classes Sophomore year, and 1 Honors class Junior year. My school offers only one Honors class in Junior year and two AP courses. I was too late to sign up for AP courses this year but my counselor told me I have definitely proven myself in getting more involved in my community and taking on leadership roles (I know this doesn't make up for my lack of AP classes, but I WILL be taking BOTH AP classes offered Senior year!).

I will be taking my SATs for the first time this January (2014). I have taken practice tests on CollegeBoard and also in the blue book and have received (my highest out of all the practice tests I have taken) a score of 650 CR, 650 Math, and 700 Writing (estimated score of: 2000). Will post again once I get my SAT results after my January test.

MY PLANNED AP SCHEDULE FOR NEXT YEAR:
1. AP Calculus
2. AP Literature and Composition
3. AP Government
4. Accounting
5. Physics

My extracurriculars (first 3 are leadership positions) include:
1. Founder and President of Future Business Leaders of America
2. Secretary (and future President - just voted for recently!) of Future Educators of America
3. Vice President of Finance of a Junior Achievement student-made company
4. Member of various clubs, such as: Soroptimist Club, Green Club, Interact Club, and Filipino Club
5. Earth Team volunteer

My community service includes:
1. Annual tree-planting and beach cleanup events
2. Over 250 hours done at retirement homes, American Red Cross, environmental protection agencies, and church
3. Volunteer at Earth Team

Please chance me for NYU CAS/Stern!

I am also from Guam.

bump! COME ON guys!

High Match… Definitely a competitive applicant…

Don’t slack on the essays… Essays will be your key to admissions

can you afford NYU? If you apply ED, you will be expected to be mostly full pay. Unless you are wealthy, you would be foolish to apply to NYU ED.

Well Stern is pretty competitive but your GPA is very good, although the lack of AP junior year might have been a lost opportunity but I wouldn’t dwell on that because there’s nothing you can do about it at this point. What you should instead do is try to get the best score on the SAT, especially improve your math section if Stern is where you really want.

@BigHeadBunny yeah, I know… I feel really bad about the lack of APs my Junior year but I think I have made up for it in extracurriculars - I’ve become much more active in school and in my community, taking up leadership positions and everything, that I have not done the years before. I was reading on the MIT admissions blog that AP courses are not really that important - they look at you as a whole (but again, this is MIT). I agree with you though! Thanks a ton, I’m definitely trying to improve my math portion, and I’m going to have to teach myself Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus because my school skips that and just goes straight AP Calculus (or it gives the option of Trig/Pre-Calc Honors OR AP Calculus for Senior year, and I’m choosing AP Calculus because Stern likes it and also because I want to challenge myself). Thank you!

bump please…!
