Chance Me for Only Dartmouth ED

Really fell in love with Dartmouth over the summer, and I need some peace of mind that I am on the right track to admittance ED. If not, what are some things that I can do to help my application? Thanks!

Demographics: White Male from Rural SE, upper middle class

Major: Engineering with a minor in Business

SAT: 1500 (750RW/750M) – Was scheduled to take again but got cancelled. Now Im unsure of if I’ll take it again.

ACT: 34 (36S, 36M, 36E, 28R), Superscore 35 (36S, 36M, 36E, 32R)

SAT Subject Tests: Got cancelled, but if possible, I will take Physics/Math II

GPA: 4.1W/3.83UW Got some B’s in my AP classes but overall huge upwards trend from my 3.6UW Freshman year

Coursework: APs (9) – CALAB, CSP, CSA, GOV, LIT, PHSYCISA, US, LANG, PSYCH. Essentially going to graduate with one of the hardest schedules possible, as we only offer 13 APs

Awards:

  • AP Scholar with Distinction(if I do well on upcoming exams)
  • 2nd Place State Physics Competition
  • Usual NHS/NTHS Awards
  • Going to graduate will full honors
  • On track to get published in scientific journal ~Januraryish (Probably wont make a difference in my app unfortunately :( )

Extracurriculars:

  • Founded a non-profit that donates computer power to charity. Currently in the process of registering 501c3 status with the IRS, but I am unsure of if it will get approved by the application deadline (10 - Present)
  • Various club officer positions (11 - Present)
  • Lacrosse Team, one of the top prospects in state and hold a huge leadership role (2 - Present)
  • Fencing Team, just for fun. Hold huge officer roles here, as I take some of the underclassman to and from practice so that the club can have enough people (11 - Present)
  • VEX/BEST/FRC, Prestigious team in state in VEX and started an effort to help educate new teams how to perform various complex tasks with their robots. Other teams are just for fun. (10 – Present)
  • Physics Team Competed at the state level for my school on the physics exam. Offered full ride in state tuition to our flagship university. (11 - Present)
  • Helped teach underpriveliged elementary school students basic engineering concepts (10 - 12)
  • Volunteered at multiple robotics camps for elementary/middle school students (Summers 2019/2020)
  • Helped create a digital library system for our local prison system, and helped scan in books for it (Summer 2019)

LoRs: No idea. I generally have a good reputation with my teachers so probably 6+?

Essays: Probably going to write about founding my non-profit. Id rate it probably 7/10 or 8/10.

Your GPA is a little low (both weighted and unweighted). Also, I would send your ACT instead of SAT, don’t bother with taking the SAT again. Your ECs are amazing though! Dartmouth is a reach for you but I’d say you’ll either be admitted or deferred in the ED round. I don’t think they’d reject you for ED.

Grades are a bit iffy, but ECs are looking really good. Your NGO and fencing-related ECs will probs make u stand out. Your chances are looking not bad (not the best, but pretty good!).

One piece of advice: never fall in love with a single college. Instead learn to like a bunch of them.

Your scores and stats are within the range for Dartmouth. If you apply ED, I think you will be given a serious look. But for heavens sake - the founding of a non-profit? This has become almost a rite of passage for wealthy students. I would leave this out, or downplay it. This will make admissions officers eyes roll.

Have you approached the LAX coach at Dartmouth? If you were to get athletic support, it would be a slam dunk.

The admission rate at these schools are so low that it’s more a lottery than a competition. Don’t get attached. Apply for a group of affordable schools. And, the economic effects of this virus are real. Look at scholarships. If a parent gets laid-off, things can get unaffordable VERY quickly. A scholarship is a guaranteed money source in writing.

Dartmouth for engineering?? Engineering is not their strength.
