I’m international (American) and took the following AP exams in high school: World History (3), Government (5), Calculus AB (5), CS (5), Physics 1 (4), Euro (3), Calculus BC (5), Macroecon (5), Microecon (5), Lang (4), CSP (5), Chem (4), USH (4), and an SAT score of 1520, plus 800 on SAT Math 1 and 760 on SAT Chem, what would be my chance to get into Oxford, or at least an interview for a major in Computer Science?
Comp Sci really looks to the MAT score in determining who is invited to interview, and the interview will be make or break for getting in. The low scores on the humanities APs won’t hurt you, but the 4 in Physics won’t help, b/c it’s seen as a strongly linked subject.
That is all the ‘chancing’ that it is possible to do.
My son is a fresher reading maths & comp sci. From everything he saw/heard last year, MAT score is the biggest factor in interview shortlisting. You pass the hurdles for Oxford with your SAT & AP/SAT2 scores, but I share @collegemom3717 concern on your Physics score. If you get shortlisted, your interview score will be the next biggest factor in receiving an offer. Have you started doing past MAT papers as practice? Take a look at your scores there and compare them to the admissions feedback posted by the Comp Sci department. From a quick look at the bar chart, you’re probably going to need to score 60 or higher to be in the safety zone for shortlisting.
Just to give you a benchmark, my son never requested feedback so he doesn’t know his exact MAT score from last year, but he was averaging high70/low80 on his practice MATs. 35/1550 on ACT/SAT and AP 5s in CS, BC, Physics C (Mech & EM) by the end of his junior year.
Good luck if you decide to apply. My son is at Worcester and loves it there.
Glad to hear that he’s loving it, @HazeGrey! Worcester is a great college - really central, nice size & very pretty (the Hall is gorgeous). If you haven’t been to the chapel yet, go see the carved animals on the pews next time you are there. They have a great organ master also, if you can be there for a service.
@collegemom3717 Funny you mention the Hall - they closed it for renovations the day after Freshers Week formal hall! Supposed to be done for Trinity term. He’s in one of the old staircases, so his room looks directly into the side of the chapel. Somehow, evensong wasn’t high on his to-do list first term. Hoping to visit again this summer.
