So I made one of these types of posts a while ago(in October) but I thought I’d rewrite one because I got my SSAT scores back and finished my application. Feel free to completely bash my hopes and dreams. I don’t mind
My Grades Are:
Math: A
English/Language Arts: A
Social Studies: B+
Science: B
Spanish: A
SSAT Percentile: 94%
Math: 800
Verbal: 700 (not very good :/)
Reading: 740
I’m giving myself anxiety over my science and social studies grades. Do they matter much?
My Extracurricular Activities:
Played piano for 7 years
Played lacrosse and tennis for 2-3 years but aren’t very good(I didn’t include this in my application)
Played ice hockey for 8 years(Made the middle school two years in a row and got in the A team once)
I’m in John Hopkins CTY
I’ve taken the SAT and scored a 1750
In Johns Hopkins SET
I am in the school math team(always regular)
In my old school, I did Model UN, Science Olympiad, Math Counts, Math Team, and Lego Robotics
I got in the honor roll for AMC 8(Math competition)
Developed and marketed 6 applications(my hook)
Essays for PE were good but Essays for PA were meh and my PA interview was great but my PE interview was just okay.
Did you really only apply to those 2 schools?? Because thats a little crazy. There is nothing about you on paper that will keep you out, but you haven’t mentioned anything that really sets you apart from all the other excellent students.
Where are you from? Do you need FA? Certainly your SSATs and grades are good enough to put you in the seriously consider pile. Lots of those kids get in, and lots don’t. Surely you have boosted yourself out of the 14% odds category, but as with all of these posts no one know where your odds have ended up, are you now in a 50% category? A 60%category? If you were a URM from North Dakota who didn’t need FA (or if you were looking at a range of schools) I would say that would put you north of 90% probability. If you are asian from Hong Kong or Ct it doesn’t get any where near that high.
Sorry, as always these threads lead to no real answers, but you knew that when you posted!
@LifeLongNYer I never really had much hope of getting in, in the first place, so my parents and I decided to not waste time and money on applying to more schools. Why does where I am from matter in decisions?
@Huggles If you’re from an under represented state/country, that increases your chances. If you’re from an over represented state/country, that lowers your chances. Same goes for ethnicity.
of course a lot of them get in, thats like saying a lot of white kids get in, thats not really the point. The point is that all things being equal, you are a more desirable applicant if you are from a state/country where they don’t get many applicants or an ethnicity which isn’t well represented on campus.
