Recommendation

My school counselor and I talk multiple times a week, he'll call me in often just to chat, should get an outstanding recommendation from him.

Jobs

Worked summer before junior and senior year, Salty Iguana and Arby's, approx. 15-20 hours a week.

Oh and my grandfather went there, I'm the first in my generation to go to college in our family.

Oh and I'm white. Which doesn't help me as much as being Native American would but at least I'm not Asian :P

Could I get in? It's my dream school, but I'd rather be disappointed now than later so be honest. Need anymore info, just ask.

Also, is it worth retaking my SATs? I heard all you really need is 2100 total.

You sound like a fairly typical applicant; you’re fundamentally qualified, but nothing truly special jumps out, and you’re unhooked. Sorry to be brutal, but with an overall acceptance rate around 8% and the rate for the unhooked significantly lower, I’d put your chances at 3-5%.

On the other hand, there are a lot of very good colleges that would covet an applicant like you, and would probably offer you significant merit aid as well.

Good luck.

Would you think I’ve got a decent chance at some of the more mid-range Ivys and the other top tier private schools?

How is it that your grandfather went to Princeton but neither of your parents went to college? You can’t be a legacy (I dont know if Princeton accepts grandparent legacy) and first gen at the same time?

You can definitely improve on the scores. Ivies are a crapshoot and are a reach for everyone.

That was worded poorly haha, I’m the first in my gen, aka oldest child so first to college

So your best bet is to find out if princeton considers grandfather legacy. Other than elite athletes with a good academic resume, there are no automatics at Princeton.

Write a good essay. That’s all I can say. I had a 33 ACT and a 2130 SAT and I got in. Remember it’s not all about test scores. Oh, and I’m half-white, half-asian, so I didn’t have a minority hook either. :)

^ I second this. But unlike kathryns, I had even lower test scores and am full Asian. But I got in (miraculously). So test scores aren’t really everything. First gen was really my only hook.

your weighted gpa is low.

You damaged your ACL and you were still able to play at least 2 sports that require a lot of running, hmmmm. I smell inaccuracy

As do I. I’m on my school’s drumline, and I can vouch for the constitutional impossibility of participating in both the marching band and football team simultaneously.

No… it’s really not. Go ■■■■■ elsewhere.

Quote : You damaged your ACL and you were still able to play at least 2 sports that require a lot of running, hmmmm. I smell inaccuracy

Tore my ACL halfway through my junior football season, returned in time to participate in the second half of track season. An ACL injury limits your cutting ability, which is why I couldn’t do lacrosse, but I was still able to do straight ahead running, like in track.

Quote : As do I. I’m on my school’s drumline, and I can vouch for the constitutional impossibility of participating in both the marching band and football team simultaneously.

Actually I do. Wake up at 6:30 every morning for band practice before school, stay at school for football practice till 6:30. For games I skip the pre-game stuff but skip the halftime speeches to do the halftime show. It’s exhausting, but I really do do it.

what do you have against asians… lol
you seem very well rounded but come off as a bit bland. write a good essay that shows your personality more

You’ll probably get rejected because you’re not a typical Asian Ivy Leaguer. Sorry about it.
