What would you want to do at Emory (academically if you have an idea) and what are the APs/IBs and associated scores if you took any. The debate background would be of interest, but still need to know more about the academics and what you expressed interests in (as in, is it in something that tons of folks applying to Emory are interested in, or is it something less common/saturated).
I wanna major in political science at Emory, as far as APs go I have a 5 in US history, 4 in biology, 4 in stats, and am taking AP Gov, AP French, AP Calc BC, AP English language, and AP Comp Sci. Also if it’s relevant I’m from a small rural town in Oregon
@Hooninator : Whether that matters depends on if your school typically sends people to selective schools or not (if not, the yes you could add to the diversity of a school). Sounds like the profile would match well for Emory political science (an ultra strong department for undergraduates) and the environment which is big on debate (did you apply scholars. I don’t know about a Regular Woodruff Scholarship, but a debate scholarship, you may definitely have a chance at. If not there are also the Liberal Arts Scholarships). I’d say you would be a good candidate/potential fit, but I don’t know what you are looking for in a school (other than vague/very general things like: “high rank, good academics” which basically mean nothing because so many schools fit that profile) and how a fit and your interests may have been conveyed in essays. You would make a strong candidate, but I can’t say for sure you are what people call a “match” because this level of school and its peers and aspirational peers don’t really have matches (for example, your GPA falls in the middle 50 but on the upper end, and your SAT in 75%, but that doesn’t mean much because the 75% cut-off is 1540 for class of 2022 admits and 1580 is not particularly different), and there will be some near or below your area of stats that may have been more outgoing academically (though said people may be more in the “scholars” tier). Likely a better chance than most, but who knows?
Again, we aren’t professionals at all. All I could say, is that your profile is a nice fit for Emory and that I would like to see folks with it get in. At the end of the day it is largely about how you presented you and your credentials and quite honestly, some luck, especially if they got more applications as they projected they would.
