My main question, I guess, is how much they’ll count how much more effort I’ve put in this year vs. before. I just wish I had done this two years ago.

I didn’t read your essays, but I’d say that you have a good chance, maybe even a very good chance, given your extracurriculars; the photography aspect of your application will make you stand out. You’re right to think that your GPA from early high school is a weakness, and I really can’t say how Bowdoin will weigh that against your dedication to your extracurriculars and your GPA this year. In the end it may come down to the characteristics of the other applicants and whether they think that your interests and background would bring variety to the class. I’m not an expert on these things, but overall I’d say you have a good chance!

It’s going to be a real reach with that GPA, which is far below their average accepted GPAs as reported on Naviance. Cross your fingers that one of your “hooks” grabs the attention of an admissions officer. It’s always possible.

FWIW, your photos are terrific, your writing very nice, and your SATs solid. I don’t do chances but you have good credentials regardless of the slow start in high school.

The essays were pretty good and the photo album as well but Bowdoin is a reach for pretty much everyone so I think you should assume the odds are against you as well. The GPA could be a problem.
