10th grade GPA: 4.5(3 APs, 3 Regular)
9th Grade: 4.17(3 Honors, 3 Regular), only “Honors Pre-Calculus” was weighted as a 5.0
8th Grade: 4.00
6-7th grade is around 3.6-3.7, I wasn’t the best student around this time.

Applying as a repeat for 10th grade.

Super into history, but specifically classical history.

SSAT: 2301/2400 grade(compared to 10th graders),99V/91Q/82R but I scored 99Q before.

ISEE: 9/9/9/9 applying for 9th grade, 9/8/9/9 or 99V/95R/99Q/9M applying for 10th grade.

Essays: Amazing, hired an Ivy League Admissions Officer to help me/guide me. Not trying to be hubris but I assuming they are good, I like them personally as well. They helped me pick prompts that fit my profile, think of stories/examples, and guide me through the process.

Interviews(for the schools I have interviewed): Very good, again, not hubris, I just know they are good. I am very good at public speaking, being respectful, and showing emphasis. I talked about how I will contribute, why I love small, class discussions such as the harkness method, and my classical history passions.

Awards: USACO Gold Division, heard awards don’t matter that much but yeah, that’s all I have done basically so far.

ECs: USACO/Coding
Made a history non-profit that teaches history in a simple, effective, and fun way. Sort of like Khan Academy or Duolingo, but this is more in depth like Wikipedia while also being organized well.

Did a bit of research assistance with a professor at a local university which is quite well known for CS but not so much for other stuff.

Regular history research for things such as the Concord Review.

I write fiction stories and historical fiction.

Reading history books by Livy/Plutarch/Julius Caesar

LORs: The personal is very good, the schools that want a teacher besides English/Math is very good.

Math LOR: Don’t have a clue but I do well in the class so probably just standard(meaning it doesn’t have much impact)

English LOR: We talk a lot about stuff that doesn’t relate to English so I would probably say above average(so has decent meaning but not the best), idk, could be worse, could be better. She definitely likes me and I gave her a context sheet.

I am not applying for financial aid and is full pay.

Previously applied to Exeter and Andover 2 years ago and got a waitlist for Exeter, rejected for Andover. However, when I applied, I had literally 0 ECs, bad grades(since they saw 6-8), standard LORs, and essays that werent overlooked by an Ivy League Admissions Officer

I think this is good.

In just two years, USACO Gold is a pretty fantastic achievement. Can’t chance you since I’m applying myself, but props to you.

Hey! I’m applying to Exeter as a 10th grader too and I am also really into both classics and history! (and Roman history especially)

Out of curiosity, have you put any thought into joining the Junior Classical League? Great organization that’s all about classics for high-schoolers. It’s got Roman History and Greek History, but not others like Egyptian sadly.

I’ve read parts of Livy’s A.U.C. (first 10 books, and the start of 21) and Caesar’s De Bello Gallico and De Bello Civile. Personally, I thought that A.U.C. was more interesting and also covers a wider range. I wanted to read Plutarch’s Parallel Lives a while back, but I got sidetracked, and it’s definitely on my bucket list.

It’s really rare that I find someone else who’s into Roman History a lot, so I’m probably rambling. Hopefully, we can maybe see each other on the Exeter campus next year! Good Luck!

I would make sure your essays are in your own voice and not that of an Ivy League admissions officer. Let them get to know you, not who you think they want.
P.S.- hubris is a noun, try not to use it to describe a person (who can have it, but not be it) :slight_smile:

My concern as well. Do people really hire Ivy League admissions officers to “help” with these essays? I cringed reading that. They are literally one page and meant to get to know you as much as they are about seeing how well you write.

Better profile than I had back in 2018, but then again, I was an eighth grader (though you have better ECs at this point in your 10th grade career than I did a year ago today)

That, and other errors, had me wondering whether he was a native speaker.

Hubris and pretentious aren’t synonymous. :wink:

Anyways, I agree with the Ivy League AO concerns. Make sure you have a genuine voice, because it’ll pretty obvious if you’re “writing to impress.” I don’t think my essay was particularly well-written (especially given how much my writing skills have developed in the past few years, though I guess that’s natural), but it had a pretty cohesive narrative that showed off who I was and connected to the various topics I spoke about during my interviews.

I have not heard about the Junior Classical League actually. But I’ll check it out

I would definitely like to mention my essays are the farthest thing from “writing to impress”. Most of them were about life experiences, what my interests and passions are, what I would do on campus, specific classical topics, and why I am interested in these topics. It is not just about extracurriculars but also filled with passion and “life goals” outside of school.

If you are good looking, it will help you get into DA :zipper_mouth_face:… facts. Just kidding (sort of)…. They look holistically - at the whole “package” - they want students who will be actively engaged in the community and take on leadership roles.

It would be interesting to find out if this year’s outcome were at all improved over last year’s.
