I'm trying to get into TAMS (Texas Academy of Math and Science).
Is my application fit for it?

SAT Details-

Math-660
Writing-700
Critical Reading- 600

How can I improve these to all SAT scores of over 700 in 2 months? For math I really need a 750-800 score for TAMS, but how can I in 2 months? Also, which SAT book has the best practice tests?

GPA: 4.34/5
Grades- all above 90's, only 1 or 2 grades under a 97
Rank- 4/578
Over 75+ volunteer hours

Activities- Debate, Scripps National Spelling Bee Club, Whiz Quiz Trivia Competition, Learning About Science/Engineering Research Club, Robotics Club, etc.

Awards-Skipped 8th grade year through Credit by Exam, Highest Humanities Average, Duke Tip Talent Recognition Search State Award , Academic Excellence in Pre-IB Honors Geometry, Academic Excellence in Pre-IB Honors Biology, Academic Excellence in Pre-IB Honors French, Academic Excellence in Humanities, etc.

So what are my chances for TAMS, and how can I effectively raise my SAT scores, especially math, to a 750-800 range in 2 months?

Make sure you go with early decision. Last year, they accepted about 2/3 of early applicants and 1/3 of regular decision. Early application is not binding.

I think you could be competitive in the early application time period. For the later, you can still try, but you will have a weak application.

Good luck!

Oh…and the high school you come out of matters too. Apparently, they get so many kids from Plano West that it is a bit harder to get in from that high school. Other than that, don’t worry.

And do not wait for regular decision to raise your SAT scores. Apply now. You would be amazed at the difference early decision vs regular makes. You can plan to retake it, while applying. Then if they reject you, maybe resubmit for regular decision. I heard of kids doing that this past year. But if you apply early decision, I do not think you will have to.

Your grades are high. Are the courses tough? Your ranking is good. Your SAT score is not high, especially if you are a boy. It’s very competitive for boys. This year I was told Plano West had 60 kids apply and 40 got in. It’s not that hard for that school. You need to improve your SAT score. Use College Board Blue book. Take a test every weekend in one setting. Get used to 4 hours of test and concentration. It will improve your score. They use algebra test score as one factor in admit students. Are you strong in math and science? Good luck.
