Chance me for these schools:

Skidmore, Trinity (Hartford), Dickinson, Franklin and Marshall, NYU, Sarah Lawrence, Kenyon, Lafayette, Connecticut College.

I know it’s a lot of schools I’m asking but any insight is welcome.

I am a white male homeschooled student from Florida.

GPA: 3.8 UW

ACT: 29 (average for some of these schools, low for others)

I have taken many courses through dual enrollment, getting A’s in all except one (B+).

I took higher level math courses (Calc in sophomore year).

I’ve taken interesting classes, taking advantage of my homeschooled status(e.g. Python programming, Astronomy, Philosophy, Ethics).

My ECs:

Volunteer at local animal shelter with 100+ hours.

Accepted to two different competitive internships at a sea turtle hospital, spent over 115+ hours over the summer.

Tae Kwon Do for 13 years, currently have my 2nd degree black belt. I have been an assistant teacher to the younger classes for the past year.

Hapkido for 2 years.

Part of my local highschool’s varsity bowling team for the past two seasons. Team captain the most recent season. (I was allowed to participate since I’m in the zone for the school). (I submitted a video of me bowling)

I have won mutiple tournaments and qualified for state tournaments in bowling.

I have a job at a local ice cream shop that I’ve held for the past 4 months or so.

I’ve built computers since around freshman year. I listed this as a hobby.

My letter of recommendations are pretty good, two from my dual enrollment professors (english, philosphy). One from my past physics teacher. A couple others from my bowling coach and Tae Kwon Do teacher. 7.5-8/10 probably.

My Essay is good in my opinion. Since I’ve homeschooled I’ve traveled the world with my dad. I tried to steer clear of the cliche “Seeing different cultures changed who I am as a person,” and made it more personal. 8/10.

My supp essays are good as well for those who require them, 7.5-8/10 ish.

Any help is appreciated, as well as suggested schools that aren’t on my list. Thank you so much!

In general.

Competitive means you will be given serious conservation imho.

Sarah Lawrence Dickinson F and M. Competitive applicant. Solid match.

Skidmore Trinity Conn Coll.

Competitive application with a terrific personal essay and recs. High match. Less likely than previous.

Lafayette. Less competitive. Reach. Not likely.

NYU and Kenyon would be a probable denial.

Doesn’t mean you couldn’t be rejected at all or accepted at most. That’s just a back of the envelope analysis and realistic expectations, if you were in my family.

Thanks so much. I forgot one school that I like. Bard college. Would this be a match for me in your opinion?

I maybe ordered these somewhat by difficulty of entry? Hard to say on some of those middle ones.

Match
Bard acceptance rate 56%, ACT 27-31
Sarah Lawrence acceptance rate 51%, ACT 27-31

Low Reach/High Match
Dickinson acceptance rate 43%, average ACT 29-31
Franklin and Marshall acceptance rate 36.4%, average ACT 28-32

Reach
Lafayette acceptance rate 31%, ACT 27-32
Trinity 34% acceptance rate, average ACT 28-32
Connecticut College acceptance rate 37% ACT 30-32
Skidmore acceptance rate 29%, average ACT 27-31

High Reach
NYU acceptance rate 31%, average ACT 29-33
Kenyon acceptance rate 26%, ACT 29-33

I would also say your odds depends on a couple other factors. Are you from a major metro where that school may be seeing many similar apps to yours? Your odds may go down. Are you from a demographic/locale unique to that school? Odds may go up. Do you need financial or merit aid? Odds go down of it working out. These small LACs can and do reject students with average to high stats. Also, being admitted may not equate to being affordable. If you can be full pay, it changes the game.

The other thing is odds are lower during an RD vs the ED/EA round. I am guessing these are RD apps due to timing? And for many schools this data is a few years old and it’s getting more challenging every year (ACT scores may be up and admissions rates may be down). Like I’d say your odds given no other info at Sarah Lawrence are at best 50/50. If you need FA to work out, they are less than that. And like the last poster said, you may get into every school, you may not get into any from this list. You may get into some, but the finances may not look good if that is a consideration. Admissions can be fickle, especially at quirky little LACs.

Anyway - my point is overall I hope this is not your complete list and you have some safety schools on your list where your stats are solidly above the 75% and admit rates are higher as well. If you do need FA, make sure to have an affordable in state option on the table if you can.

Thank you for the reply. I am from a small town in south Florida, so I don’t think they get a lot of applications from my area. I am pursuing need based aid, so for schools that are not needs blind this is an issue. Of course this in not my full list of schools, and I have many other matches and safeties that I am applying to.
For places like Skidmore, Lafayette, and Trinity, my ACT and GPA are pretty much average there. I am assuming that you are putting those in the reach category because of their low acceptance rate? I’m sure those schools reject people in my position all the time. Anyway, thanks again.
