(10/10)- best student in the class and she’s my advisor, really likes me
Guidance Counselor Rec- not too sure but I don’t see why it would be any lower than (8/10)

My Essays should be pretty good

@mat324 The UC system doesn’t have early decision or early action-you don’t seem to have done a great deal of research on these schools. That’s the first step-find out everything you can about the admissions process.

Your chances will depend on whether you’re in-state or not. Out of state admissions at Berkeley and UCLA are deadly, and with that GPA and so-so test scores for an OOS you’ll be in trouble.

I wouldn’t ever call a teacher rec 10/10 on the basis of being the best student in the class. Not unless your teacher is going to write “mat324 is one of the best students I have taught in the course of a 20+ year career. He is a wonderful person, helped half the school escape a volcanic eruption in 9th grade, and served as a mentor to 5 kids in my class who were dealing with substance abuse problems.” If you’re the best student in your class and your teachers like you, their recs will likely be 8/10 or 9/10

Your stats won’t get you into UCB, nor LA.
No financial aid for OOS, so $58k per year at those schools.

@NotVerySmart well she certainly isn’t going to say mat324

What is your UC GPA? If OOS, you can only use AP/IB classes for the extra honors points in the GPA calculation.

Also Senior year grades are not considered in UC admission decisions. As stated above by @aunt bea, if you are OOS then you can expect to pay close to $58K/year with little to no FA or merit aid.

USC/UCLA: Low Reach
UCB: Reach

Your GPA is hurting your chances and with only 3 AP classes by end of Junior year, your course rigor is lacking.

You need to aim a bit lower and consider in-state options.

@Gumbymom I’m assuming your saying my course rigor is lacking excluding my senior year? because I’m taking 6 ap classes next year and also I have taken 4 ap classes thus far not 3. Also the tuition is not a huge problem, but my GPA obviously is

@Gumbymom in addition, I think alot of schools give the students the option to take AP classes when they want however that is not my school. At my school you have to have teachers recommend you for an AP class and even then you have to go through an admissions process. If it were up to me my schedule would have consisted of nothing but honors and AP classes but it wasn’t my decision, which in turn makes me look unambitious

Yes, your AP schedule for Senior year is rigorous but unfortunately for the UC’s, they will see your intended Senior schedule but there will be no grades from these classes to help you in their admissions. If you do well 1st semester, your mid-year grades will help for USC. If your counselor notes that on your school report that youhave a rigorous schedule in comparison with your peers, that will give a boost on your chances.
