Hello, so the idea of college apps are coming up, and I was wondering if you guys could chance me on my chances to UCI.
UW GPA: 3.84
W GPA: 4.5
UC GPA: 4.25
SAT ( will retake once more) : 1420
Extracurriculars: Honestly, they’re just average or below average. Nothing special, just a couple years of sports, involvement in some clubs, and volunteering.
Intended major: Economics or Business Administration
UPDATE: can you guys chance me for ALL of the UCS, not just UCI? Sorry lol
Also, I’ve taken 4 APS so far:
World History (3)
US History (5)
Biology (3)
Computer Science (4)
and plan to take 5 APS during my senior year:
Gov
Econ
Physics 1
Art History
Calculus AB
You have competitive UC GPA and test scores. Your HS course rigor looks good so your EC’s and essays will be important since these areas will set you apart from the rest of the academically qualified applicants.
Business Admin at UCI is highly competitive and the acceptance rate for 2017 was 22%. 2018 data is not available.
I would select Business Econ as an alternate major for UCI.
I had a solid chance a the majority of the UC’s except for UCLA/UCB which should be considered Reach schools.
Best of luck.
@Gumbymom thanks for the response. Would my UC gpa, an improved SAT score (maybe like 1480-1500) and solid essays be able to overshadow my below average ECS?
UC GPA, Test scores, HS course rigor and Essays are considered very important by all the UC’s vs. EC’s which are important. If all things are equal however, your EC’s could make you standout more.
Here is an overview of what UCI considers important in their application review:
- IRVINE
*
-
Very important: Academic GPA, Application essay, Extracurricular activities, Level of applicant's interest, Rigor of secondary school record, Standardized test scores, Talent/ability, Volunteer work, Work experience
-
Important: Character/personal qualities, Class rank
-
Considered: First generation college student, Geographical residence, State residency
-
Note: Demonstrated record of academic preparation, educational engagement, talent and skills important.
- Freshman Selection:
UCI admits into the University first and then into the major. In the case that UCI is unable to accommodate all qualified applicants in their first-choice major, those students who indicate a valid alternate major may be offered admission in that major or Undeclared.
