Chance me for UNC Chapel Hill? In state homeschooled student with a ton of college credits.

Hello! I’m touring Chapel Hill in two days, but am reconsidering my choice, because I’m not sure if I could get in.

I’m 17 and entering as a freshman in 2018.

I’m going to be majoring in Biomedical Engineering.

Weighted GPA: 4.65, unweighted GPA: 4.00 Two years of these are homeschooled credits, but from 2016 on, they’re all college credits.

I’ll have 72 college credits from my local community college through dual enrollment after this semester. I know that I can only transfer 64 credits, but I’ll be able to cut off more than a year and a half.

I can write a mean essay

Most likely strong application from my biology professor.

ACT: 33. It’s very likely that I’ll retake the ACT in 2017, because I took it for the first time when I was 15 and I learned a lot more since then.

Extracurriculars, my weakest suit:

40 hours volunteering at a pharmacy, 30 hours and increasing volunteering at a pet shelter.

Former 4H club vice president,

Tutoring in biology, chemistry, calculus, algebra, and ASL.

4H second place prize for public speaking.

Member of the psychology club at my community college

I’m speech disabled and high functioning autistic (not sure if that will help me or hurt me for getting in), and mixed race Caucasian and Indian.

Thank you!

Not sure why you are having doubts. While no one is gauranteed to be accepted, your stats indicate that you have a good chance. Home schooling is not an issue.

My only other comment is that if you decide to switch majors there are no other engineering majors offered at UNC-CH. For this reason, I would also consider NC State.

As for being speech disabled and austistic, I have no idea. However you have proven that you are more than capable so I highly doubt that would be an issue.

Thanks so much for your answer. I did actually write my essay about being my experiences with being speech disabled, and I hope that helps out.

If I do switch majors, it will most likely be to a more science and research related field, not to another engineering field. I appreciate it, though!
