I meant algebra honors is a full year class . Honors classes like algebra honors gets a half point bump. But since it’s a year long her grade is a grade for the entire year. Not semester. So if she got an A. She gets 4.5 twice. Unlike semester grades where you can get an A first half and a B 2nd half for example
All AP IB AICE Or Dual are 5 points. Honors if core is 4.5 for an A
She took enc1101 do I count that once or twice?
That class counts as junior year English
@funfit don’t confuse when I say a half year class .5 or a full year class 1.0 with adding weight to the end grade. Every class is either a semester class .5 or a full year class 1.0. Any class with a n EOC like algebra honors and I believe biology are 1.0 full year classes. Like the Spanish class for Dual enrollment even though it’s only as long as a semester That dual enrollment you count twice because it’s a full year class aka 1.0. Algebra is a full year class and the length is actually a full year long and you count it twice. Now. Regardless of counting it once or twice you will now add weight to it. Honors is 4.5 and college level classes are 5.0 see below. Let’s assume she got an A in all the below except AP world history
Alg Honors A. = 5 + 5=10
Dual enrollment. Spanish 1 5+ 5=10
AP world history A 1st sem 5 B 2nd 4 =9
Calculation. 6 / 29 = 4.83
Most dual enrollments you count only once but since college algebra for example and college Spanish 1 are 1.0 full year classes you would count it twice. I think they are 4 college credits asses is why versus 3 credit classes
So if I don’t double the core dual enrollment and just add 1 to the class like an AP I come out with a 4.875 I was counting classes like enc1101, stats, precal, and spainish that she took at DE twice since they earned a full credit. Classes like medical terminology and nutrition I only counted 1 time since it was .5 credits. She took 8 honors classes. The rest is AP or DE. Does this sound right?
Make sense. If you look at their school record it will indicate the high school class or college class as a .5 half year or 1.0 full year. Keep in mind those classes that are .5 have another .5 for the 2nd semester but you can have an A for first semester and a C for the 2nd semester
I think I’m gonna leave it up to the AOs at UF to figure out. Lol. I’ll fill out the ssar and hope for the best. ?. She tried her best and enjoyed what she learned???
As to instate/oos, if you are a dependent it is the PARENT who fills out the residency claim, filing proof of living in Florida for at least 12 months. It sounds like your father has lived there for a while so should have the documents needed - license, voter registration, lease/mortgage, etc. Make sure you do this correctly so you don’t have to appeal.
Forget counting twice for a moment. Any college level class the Hughes is 5.0. Honors classes 4.5. The only classes you enter in twice is any DE that is 1.0 credit versus .5 credit. If your daughter took 8 honors then the 4.8 is high. So she took. I classes that were not honors or college level ? And she got straight A’s and no B’s I’m assuming ? 4.8 is one of the highest I have heard of. If you think about it 5.0 is the highest. So in order to get above a 4.75 you have to have many more College levels that honors and no regular. Also no B’s.
Don’t forget. If you count it twice you have to make
Sure you are dividing by 2 classes. Can’t count twice with out dividing by 2 classes
Yup. I got all that. No Bs and has taken the max dual enrollment classes per semester starting summer of freshmen year plus several AP.
4 honors were in 8th grade
@funfit its possible if no B’s and 6 honors.
@jhmoney and @GatorDad305 my recalculated UF GPA (I used only my core class+foreign language) is only a 4.16! I just took the SAT, and according to my practice scores and how I felt about the test, I feel pretty confident about achieving at least 1350-1400. How does that change things?
@allie1013 Looking at the admissions data from last year, 75% of admits had a GPA of 4.2 or higher. UF weighs GPA and rigor more heavily than test scores, so I would say you are on the bubble. The only thing you can change is your test score and I think you have until Dec. 15 to post your best score. UF now superscores both the SAT and ACT (but doesn’t combine them in any way). Take both and be sure that the scores arrive by Dec. 15. Spend time on the application, go on an official tour, write a great essay and then hope for the best. Have some safeties lined up. Good luck and let us know what happens.
UVA is a great school, btw.
@jjt0407 UVA (and most Virginia schools) are much more expensive than Florida college.
@GatorDad305 @jhmoney
I retook the SAT in October and got a 1500. How does this change my chances?
Also for ECs I have begun teaching Spanish speaking students English. I don’t know if that helps haha anything that might help at all is worth putting down, right?
@allie1013 congrats on a great score. It’s only once piece of the puzzle but that’s impressive. I’m sure it helps you. No one’s a lock with UF’s holistic admissions. Good luck and let us know what happens in february.
