SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIALS:
To the schools that accept art supplements, I will be sending a photography portfolio of 15 outstanding images.

ESSAYS:
I have gotten feedback on my essays saying that they are incredible. They should be the strongest component of my application.

TEACHER RECS:
Both should be GREAT! I have personal relationships with both, so they should be glowing.

COUNSELOR REC:
Not sure. So many students and the school is understaffed in the counseling department. May end up being generic.

Eh - okay. Your ECs, grades and ACT aren’t very strong (32 translates to a low 2100 or high 2000 on the SAT). I could see it being a hook if you’re a nationally recognized photographer, but I don’t see any awards or recognition in that area. Not seeing any particularly strong dedication in your ECs.

Sorry if I come off mean, I don’t mean to be – I consider photography as one of my main ECs as well. However, I hope you applied to other schools as well that you think you’d be happy in.

You have as good a chance as anyone else. Admission to selective schools is always holistic, so your numbers (stats), don’t hurt you. There have been COUNTLESS times on the decision threads for ivies where those with a 3.7, 3.8, 3.9 gpa and 2100-ish SAT score get in, while others with a 4.0 uw and almost perfect SAT score don’t. You’re bound to get into at least one, in my opinion.

Sure decent chance, EXCEPT for Wharton. I can’t really see this app as painting a picture of a future business of America, and Wharton is even more competitive than the rest of UPenn.

So far, the only EC that seems to be really buisness-oriented that would pique the Wharton admissions officers’ interests is the DECA awards. Many of your other ECs are kind of generic. (Key Club, NHS, etc) Being White and knowing Chinese is a huge plus though, and if your essays really are incredible, hopefully they can overlook your relatively low in comparison ACT and GPA.

Vandy is probably your best bet. So, while many folks mention the holistic admission approach at Ivies–that should be taken with a pronounced preface–I know, my two daughters went to Ivy schools. So, like anything else, you have to off-set some of the weaker areas of your application (e.g. GPA and test scores). This could mean you being an URM, from an underrepresented area of the country, a compelling life story, an athlete, etc…That said, Yale, Brown and Penn are pretty fair reaches, as they are for even the most qualified, and that is especially true with Yale.
