Chance me? I WILL chance back!!!

Please, chance away...I'm currently a junior and would like to know any improvements I can make while I still have the time.

Schools: Harvard, Yale, Columbia, University of Michigan, Northwestern, Stanford

GPA: 4.08 (unweighted)...not entirely sure about weighted, probably 5.08? (never gotten anything less than an A)

Rank: Roughly 13 out of 400 some (this is, again, unweighted), roughly top 2%

Core Classes (just the basics): Freshman--World History (standard class, no honors available), Honors Geometry, Honors English, Honors Science, French II

Soph--AP US History (5 on AP Test), AP Bio (5 on the AP Test), Honors English, Honors Advanced Algebra, French III

Junior--AP Language and Composition, AP Chemistry, AP Gov, Honors Precalculus, French IV
(I'm hoping to be in the 4/5 score range for these AP Classes)

and I plan on taking four APs senior year as well

Last ACT Test (I haven't taken it for real yet): 33 composite

Teacher Recommendations: I feel pretty strong in this area, so just assuming I get glowing recommendations

Essay: Again, I love writing so presuming I have a strong essay

Extracurriculars:

After freshman year, I interned at a local newspaper and, while it was mostly busywork, I did have the chance to write solo articles

After soph year: I interned at the Ann Arbor Chronicle, which was a truly amazing experience--I was given much appreciated freedom and it was somewhat time consuming (at least 15-20 hours a week). I continue to work with the chronicle throughout this school year

Summer after junior: I hope to either continue with the Chronicle or be a Senate page...

Model UN--since 9th grade; I am now an officer and hopefully will be next year as well

Saline Youth Council--since 9th grade; I am the president now (probably will be next year too)

NHS--this year; I am now on the Executive Council and hopefully will be an officer next year

Cross Country this year

Thank you! Let me know if I forgot anything major--thank you and I PROMISE to return the favor

You’re in at UMich and you have a good shot at NW, but I’m not sure about HYS. You have a shot because you’re an excellent student to say the least and I’m sure they won’t reject someone who’s a great student, but with today’s competition, HYS admissions are very random. The only thing I’d change is to increase your senior APs to maybe 5 or 6? If you’re serious about HYS, then you’re gonna need to be serious about your schedule.

All in all, your grades are definitely HYS material. Your ECs, though few, are very focused and not just random parts of a long list. Your ACT is fine at 33, but I’d be more comfortable at 34-35 if I were you. But, I’ve gotta say that at top schools like NW and HYS, anything can happen to the ordinary but excellent student. If you have any hooks, now would be the time to tell the world :P

(Plz disregard title)

Thanks so much! As for upping my AP Schedule, our school has five periods per day, so five would be the maximum, but because I don’t necessarily have five APs that look extremely interesting, I may dual enroll at a local university like UMich. But thank you very much! :)

If 5 is the maximum, then 4 is enough. Although it wouldn’t look too good, your high school profile takes care of that and perhaps your counselor could mention this situation? Personally, I’d stick with 4 if the 5th AP isn’t something I’m interested in and take a class that isn’t weighted but is something I enjoy, like… orchestra or art.
