I know my MCAT score is rather low, but I was thinking that I should just apply anyway since it is my first run through and I can just study better (considering I was taking 18 credits/semester while studying for the MCAT) next year. Here is my selection of colleges that I was considering on applying to.

1] Cornell University
2] University of Wisconsin Medical School
3] University of Virginia
4] University of Washington
5] Creighton University
6] Georgetown University
7] University of Chicago-Pritzker
8] University of Minnesota
9] Baylor College
10] Mercer University /Meharry Medical College
11] Ohio State University

I know my choices seem to be closer to the high end, but I want to dream big! Are there any other medical schools that you recommend me with the score that I am getting? Thank you for any positive constructive criticism! I really appreciate the time and effort!!! :)

Before, you read any further let me tell you that I am not an expert - just a parent of a pre-med applying in this cycle. With that caveat, if you are still reading, let me tell you that with the kind of imbalance in your stats, you are better off applying to more schools and more lower end schools.

Dreaming big is not the right way to go for you. Put some realism into the process. You have some things that put you at a disadvantage with every top school; low MCAT and low verbal. Med schools think that there is more correlation between MCAT verbal scores and USMLE1 scores. A verbal of 8 is a concern for most schools let alone the top ones.

If it’s worth anything, my son’s pre-health office told him specifically not to apply to a few schools like George Washington and Georgetown because of the huge number of applications those schools receive.

You should get in somewhere, provided you are careful with school selection, do well with your PS, essays and interviews.

I think this website is mainly for undergrad, not med, law, mba, etc.

There was a link to this on the pre-med forum. That’s how I stumbled on it.
