Make sure you learn how to use apostrophes (feminists’ squabbles), acknowledge women (sometimes they sneak out of the kitchen and into admissions committees) and keep elitist comments out of your essays (“I figure it looks good because I associate with upper-class people”).
Failure to do any of these will jeopardize your chances.

I have a theory on admissions. i believe that the reason why a majority of applicants get denied is because they are not being real. When they fill out applications they try to give the admissions what they think they want to hear when truth is they want to hear who you really are. I believe they can distinguish the people who are giving them a portriat of who they really are instead of a false portrait of you that’s not really who you are. That’s what you are doing by the way; painting a picture of yourself that admissions can look at and see if they are right for Brown. With ECs you need to not take as many as possible but take some that you actually enjoy. Like my interviewer for Brown said, there are thousands of applicants who went to Africa and built homes, fed the homeless on Christams Day, but they are exactly the same as the other applicant who built homes in Africa and fed the homeless on Thanksgiving! It will be different if you show you really care and learned something from building homes. You need to show that you are a great person who is going to take advantage of the education they are providing. You need to show you will bring something to Brown.

We have very similar stats - I have a 2100 SAT and a 31 ACT, and I also studied abroad (in Spain), so it’s nice to see that someone on my level is also trying to get into Brown :)

It looks like you have a good shot - but our test scores are on the lower end of the scale. Because of this, its all going to depend on your essays, recs, and ECs but most importantly, you kinda got to hope the probability works with you. For me, I feel like my applications are just a shot in the dark but who knows - I may get accepted somewhere :P

Thanks for the constructive advice! I realize that there are plenty of students who talk about their own vacations/studies abroad, but I approached mine with less focus about what I did and more about how I intend to USE my experience now and in the future. And it’s not a lie: I would like to build a career path that caters to my interest in Japan and its culture. I would have explained that if I had an interview, but Quest Bridge applicant don’t get interviews, although I feel like I did a pretty good job explaining that in my essay.

And csmith, don’t feel down! A 2100 SAT and a 31 ACT are great scores! There’s no reason why you won’t get into a school that you’ll like. If you start a chance thread, send me the link and I’ll chance you back :)

I think your SATs are, as other people have noted, a little on the low side but your ACT can make up for it. Hopefully your SAT II’s are within range because that’s kind of what I’m around!.. except a little lower haha. I guess you can say that if you really showed enthusiasm and passion in your essays you have a shot.

Chance me back please!
