Chance me? I'll chance back! :)

Hi there! First of all thanks for taking a look. Compared to most of the credentials I see on these threads, I definitely feel like a VERY underwhelming student, but that doesn't stop me about being slightly paranoid about college acceptances. :) So here goes...

Background: I'm a rising high school senior at one of the top 250 public high schools in the USA. I've been raised by a single mother for the past seven years because my father passed away when I was 10. Unfortunately I had a terrible freshman year which has definitely had a negative impact on my GPA, but it has been steadily trending upward ever since. I went from a 2.8 UW GPA/3.2 W GPA my freshman year to a 3.8 UW/4.2 W GPA both semesters of my junior year. I'm looking to major in secondary education, or at least get teaching certificates in either Biology and/or English.

Ethnicity: White

GPA: 3.2/3.69

Class Rank: Not sure.

IB/Honors Classes:
PIB LA - Freshman and sophomore year. (C's freshman year and B's sophomore year)
PIB Bio - Sophomore year. (C first semester, B second semester)
AP US History - Sophomore year. (B first semester, A second semester)
IB World History - Junior year. (B's both semesters)
IB Language Arts - Junior year (A's both semesters)
IB Bio - To be taken senior year.
IB Language Arts pt 2 - To be taken senior year.

EC's:
-Women's lacrosse for my district for two years, both years on C team.
-Women's soccer for one year on JV, was captain of the team. Hoping for varsity next year.
-Two years of club soccer.
-Three years of choir.
-Member of GSA for one year.
-2 years on a panel that goes around to different schools to promote school a comfortable school climate and equality. We also talk to incoming freshmen.
-Selected to be a part of a group that helps freshmen transition from middle school to high school through mentoring and monthly activities.

Honors:
-Offensive player of the year award for JV soccer. (Not sure if this counts but I'll include it anyway :P)
-Two awards for leadership in school climate and equality.

Schools: Western Washington University, Washington State University, University of British Columbia, Guilford College, Colorado State University, SUNY Oswego, University of Puget Sound, Auburn University.

Standardized Tests:
ACT - 27 (without writing, thinking about retaking in the fall)
SAT 1 - Coming soon!

Recommendations:
-IB LA teacher
-Chemistry teacher

Thanks once again for reading, your honesty and responses are much appreciated. :)

I’d think you have a pretty decent chance at all of those schools. Good luck and I wish you the best this upcoming college admissions season! :)

I’m assuming you live in Washington? If so I’d say you are in at Western Washington and Washington state. Also I’d say that Auburn and Colorado State are high matches for you. I’m not to familiar with the other schools so I don’t want to give any false recommendations.
Good luck and it never hurts to retake those tests!(even though your scores are good enough for all of those schools)

Yeah I agree with the above posters. You’re fine

The only one I can see being a little issue is UBC but with such a huge grade improvement I don’t see it as being a major obstacle

You have certainly a difficult course schedule as well with IB which means that although you didn’t start out great you still got better and better once the harder classes came about. Thats an excellent thing to have.

Good ECs, just make sure that you have a good SAT/ACT score and that you write good essays. They make a difference!

Good luck!

Chance me back

Thank you so much for all of your input! I actually do not live in Washington, but I’ve always wanted to go to college there. I was able to visit Western Washington and Washington State and loved the campuses.

I guess the two colleges I’m most concerned about my chances of getting into are University of Puget Sound and University of British Columbia. My SAT scores came in at a mediocre 1800, but considering I had no idea what to expect for the test, I guess I did okay. I’m planning on retaking my ACT to bump it up a couple points to see if I can get into honors at colleges like Western Washington and SUNY Oswego.

I know this is also a lot to ask, but I’d also love suggestions for other colleges to look at considering my GPA and test scores, especially for private/liberal arts universities because the majority of the colleges on my list are public schools. I just want to look into every type of college that is available.

Once again, thanks so much! :D
