Chance Me! Intl, ED

An international student from China, I'm now about to start my senior year at a high school in Dallas, Texas.
I've stayed in Texas since my junior year, during which I spent my first semester at a tiny protestant school in Fort Worth, and then transferred to one of the largest Catholic high schools in Texas.

Apparently, I'm mostly STEM-oriented.

Going to apply early decision to increase my chance...

Another thing, I'm going to apply for financial aid, though I know it reduces my chance anywhere. Plus I don't have gree card or citizenship, so I'm still considered international, right?

Academics:
i). When I was still in China, 9-10th grade:
National Math Contest, 2nd place
National Science Contest, regional 2nd place in chemistry, 3rd place in physics
Academic team

ii). After I came to the U.S., 11th grade (I'm about to start my 12th grade):
800s on SAT Chem, Physics, Math level2
5s on AP Chem, AP Cal AB, AP Physics C mechanics, a 3 on AP Physics electromagnetism
32 on ACT (Will retake)
1940 on SAT (Will retake)
4th place at school, in Continental Math League Calculus Contest. (only a pathetic 4th place due to the fact that this contest wasn't held at the school I transferred from)

ECs:
i). When I was still in China, 9-10th grade:
Model UN
English Honor Society
School Spring Play

ii). After I came to the U.S., 11th grade (I'm about to start my 12th grade):

School Ambassador
Sergeant at Arms of school math team
Also a member of Marching band, men's ensemble, National Honor Society

THANK YOU!!!!

Hey Ebowyang! Did I read too fast or did you forget to tell us which universities you will be applying to?

Since you post it on Cornell, I’m guessing you are thinking ED cornell?

I’m from Guangzhou, studying in MA currently. Given your SAT score, I would recommend you look for other schools. Your SAT is not at par, they won’t even read your application.

Thinking about ED Emory, Tufts, NYU. You will have higher chances there. ED Cornell will just waste your invaluable ED chance.

I’m sorry to say that, but you have no idea how cruel the process is nowadays.

^dude, he has a 32 on the ACT. U cant be serious. Ive seen people get accepted with less than a 1940. I think a 32 converts to a 2100 though

Yes, I’m applying to Cornell since it’s the easiest to get in among all Ivies!!!
Apparently, I don’t think I have a good shot at any other ones…

Cicit123!

I won’t report that low of an SAT score, of course. So what do you think are my chances with 32 on ACT?

BTW, u r currently enrolled as a Cornell student right?

Sorry I didn’t realize that this was the Cornell section.

Your SAT definitely seems to be on the low side. However try to do something extraordinary and you might have a chance. There’s one guy from my school who got into Harvard with a 1850 (He was one of the most active members of my country’s reigning political party) and another with around 1900-1950 who got into Cornell without anything extraordinary (I think he was an athlete though … but definitely not recruited). There’s also one girl who who hired the same private counsellor I am using who got in Duke with a 1950.

I have a 1960 but I have extremely good ec related to my major, unique essay (about my harsh childhood : how I rose from a nobody in society to someone who everybody looked up to), great recommendations from teachers, a not so good recommendation from counsellor (meh… :frowning: ). Im also applying ED to Cornell. Hoping we both get in ^_^

P.S All these students I talked about are international ones. 2 of them got a full-ride. One got around 80% tuition I think. And I am only telling you about those who got in. There are plenty who I know who got rejected with those SAT scores.

Yeah try to get your SATS up
