Will be applying to:

Stanford

Northwestern

You have a great shot at all the schools listed. Make sure you apply to some back up schools, because despite your amazing qualifications they’re all hard to get into. Since you are such a good candidate, I think you can get into at LEAST 2/3 of them. I think Georgetown, Vanderbilt, Cornell and UC Berkeley/UCLA would be good additions. I would suggest you apply to low matches like: NYU, UMichigan, USC, Emory, and if you’re a girl Barnard. Apply to UMich EA to so you can be sure you get in somewhere in the winter and will have nothing to worry about after that.

You go to a school with 7 kids? Holy cow lol. Anyway I think people might be overestimating your application a bit. Sure the paramedics things unique but student council doesn’t mean much when your school consists of 7 people. Getting published for research is good but it’s not that unique. I think you have a shot but I dont think you’ll get into 2/3 of that list which is a ridiculous suggestion. You would have to cure cancer to have that much of an advantage

No, @rayvan, you definitely don’t have to cure cancer. None of the kids that have gotten into Ivies/top schools cured cancer. Cancer is still very much at large.
Having said that, I agree that Student Council won’t count for much (I mean, in a class of 7 people, pretty much everyone would be on the council). How large is the journal you were published in (state, regional, national)? That and the actual topic of research (plus if you turned up anything new) will determine how much it stands out. I’m an international, and of all the people from my school that got into top schools (more than a few), not a single one had any research on their plate.
Your scores are well in the range, and that much volunteer time shows dedication if nothing else. If you portrayed that well in your essays then I think you have an awesome shot (another thing is that coming from such a small school, you have a unique perspective to bring to any campus).
Harvard and MIT are crapshoots for everyone. I’d expect a rejection/waitlist from Yale and Princeton, because in my humble opinion they’re stuck-up. Stanford really likes quirky people (I should know, I got in last year) so keep your fingers crossed. For Columbia and John Hopkins it’s a 50/50 thing (depending on how much financial aid you’ll need though) and I think Northwestern is a high match (again, that financial aid clause).
Good luck! Hey, I take it you want to study medicine? Me too! :)

There are 7 people in my graduating class. The whole highschool (9-12 grades) consists of about 50 people. My involvment with student council was at a national level where I represented aprox. 3.2 million students.
My article was published in a national journal, on the topic of smoking prevention. I will have another article published, on the topic of biomaterials (Bioprosthetic Heart Valves).
Yep, my plan is to study medicine. Good luck to you too.

@jewelessien. How did you get into Stanford last year (the toughest school to get into for ANYONE especially for internationals)…if you are applying to schools this year according to your thread…

…it looks like you are applying to Notre Dame, Pepperdine, Pomona, and MIT according your thread…

@gravitas2 @jewelessien it’s things like this that make this site unreliable and often full of ■■■■. how can you claim to help people and give opinions if you aren’t willing to be honest/ don’t know jack about anything?

Anyway to clarify I didn’t mean you’re not getting into of them. I do think you have a decent chance and probably will be accepted into 1-2 of the difficult reaches. I was only pointing out that the above’s poster’s suggestion that you’ll get into at least 2/3 of the list is complete BS.

ya frankly I don’t know about your stats but the ivy’s are reachers. Schools such as Pepperdine, Michigan, Emory and Virginia are more of your safety smart schools, not to say they are bad choices by any means but they’re certainly more attainable schools with a reputable education.

@gravitas2 @kei04086 PERHAPS if you actually read through the thread, including the link to another thread that was provided: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/210497-those-ecs-weak-so-whats-good-81.html then PERHAPS you might have noticed that I got into Stanford last year but my admission was rescinded because of a lot of ■■■■■■■■ with my high school that I do not want to talk about here, because this thread is about @rayvan not me. If you STILL think I’m lying, go Google “Princess-Jewel Essien” and PERHAPS you’ll see the newspaper article that was written about it and the petition that a fellow admit kindly started (though it didn’t do any good in the end). Along the way you might also notice my own nationally-recognized (in my country) academic achievements, coupled with the fact that I (would have) finished high school at fifteen, which MAY have had something to do with me getting into Stanford. Just maybe.

Kindly go screw youselves with your premature assumptions about people, please. It’s people like you two that wreck this site - look how you’re judging @rayvan when you don’t have a heck of a clue what he actually brings to the table. @kei04086, “don’t know jack about anything”? Please read your chancing and mine and tell me which is more informed and gives more pertinent information. Thank you. Bye.

Yes. So back to the topic at hand. @rayvan, sorry about all that nastiness. I take it your Student Council EC was actually something like a national Model United Nations or Youth Parliament? You should’ve clarified that in your OP, and I hope you did so on your actual app. And no matter what the over-achievers at CC might tell you, getting published in a national science journal is an incredible accomplishment for anyone, and more so for a teenager. Is it available online? PM me a link? ;)

@jewelessien. Now it makes sense. Thank you for clearing that up…it’s definitely a very very unusual circumstance. I’m sorry to hear Stanford rescinded your acceptance last year. Good luck in this years application process.

I am new to CC. Pardon me if its not tge right way, but can I put my stats and ECs over here in the comments ? I really need some honest suggestions on my chances. Thanks!

@jewelessien I am sorry about your situation. It really sucks, and good luck. The Student council was more like of a student union, representing all the students in relation with the gov. and the ministry of education. The paper isn’t available online, but I’ll see if I can scan a printed copy of it. :)
