i still am yet to look more into colleges, but public school wise i want to go to UCSB or UCI. can you suggest what I can do in between senior year to improve my chances? And what schools would suit me best.

Calculate all of your UC GPA’s and post your actual SAT scores before asking for chances.

Neither school accepts letters of recommendation and the best thing you can do is continue to do well in your HS classes and continuing with your EC’s. I would suggest you start working on your personal insight essays this summer so your English teacher can look them over before submitting your UC application in November.

What kind of schools interest you? Public/Private? Rural/Urban/Suburban? Sports/Greek life? What is your college budget?

Assuming you are a California resident, then first look at selecting some safety schools (likely). They need to be affordable, guaranteed acceptance and you are willing to attend no matter what. Your local Cal state usually makes 1 good safety school.
