So, chance me maybe?
Keep in mind that this is just my opinion.
Stats: Looking good my dude. However, where are the subject tests? Without Math II and a science subject test, your chances fall drastically.
ECs: average, nothing that stands out
Chances: I would have lots of matches and safeties. I think you have a fairly low chance of getting into MIT, Columbia, and Cornell.
Reasons:
MIT - you need to have shown some exceptional ability in STEM, whether it be achieving some prestigious awards, doing research, attending summer programs, etc.
Columbia and Cornell - They are ivies. While your application is great, there is no clear spike of any sort. Most of the stuff is average. The fact that you are an international applicant makes it even harder.
Your stats are good, but MIT is unlikely because of the lack of STEM focus. You have a shot at Cornell, though.
Can you please also chance me for UChicago, UPenn, and Columbia. I am applying for financial aid in all of them.
Also I’m taking 3 subject tests. Maths II, Physics, and Chemistry
I hope those subject tests go well!
UChicago: It’s a weird school. If your essays fit the school, I’m sure you can get in. It’s the only school where stats don’t matter too much since they dropped the SAT requirement.
UPenn: low, has a great engineering program but since your application does not seem so STEM focused, i don’t think you’ll have a high chance.
Columbia: all i can say is good luck for this one. You may or may not get in. Keep in mind that this is an Ivy.
Overall, with the request of financial aid, your chances at getting into schools with strong engineering programs are pretty low but sometimes it’s all about luck. I wish you the best!
Thank you so much for your inputs! Cheers all.
Update: Received SAT Subject test scores
Maths -800 Physics -800 Chemistry -790
Ok so I decided to apply to Rice over the course of December. I’d say my essays (Why Rice, etc) and my “The Box” submission are pretty interesting to say the least. As an international, what are my chances for RD?
@Faulkner1897 predicts an RD acceptance rate at, if memory serves, 7.8%.
I predict an overall acceptance rate of 7.8% (including ED and RD).
If 27,068 total applied, and 2,658 of those were ED, then 24410 applied RD.
Last year 1,957 were accepted RD. I think Rice will be more conservative this year and accept 1,600 RD (pure speculation). This will result in a 6.6% acceptance rate RD. But again, pure speculation - it all depends on how many Rice accepts RD and what they predict the yield will be.
