I am a current junior with around a 4.0 weighted GPA. I take all honors and AP classes (will have taken 5 APs by graduation) and I get a mix of A's and B's (usually 2 As and 3 Bs per year) and go to a very competitive public school (ranked #1 in the state).

If I get my SATs up to 2150+ and have a lot of ECs and leadership (service trips, community service club leader, working with special needs kids), do you think I stand a good chance ED for wake forest?
(I am worried that a 4.0 Weighted GPA and around a 3.5 Unweighted isn't good enough but I'm not sure if ED makes it easier to get in, in addition to my other attributes?)

Any information or advice is greatly appreciated!!!!

ED doesn’t give a person much help. But with your grades and good scores you should have a good chance! Good luck!

I thought that the acceptance rate for ED was higher because it is binding? At least that’s what the stats from my school show…
So would you say that you don’t need all “A’s” to get accepted?

1234abc1. I can’t help but compliment you on your terrific grades…and then get on you a bit for calling it a mediocre GPA. That really says it all about grade inflation doesn’t it? If you think a weighted 4.0 is mediocre then there is something terribly wrong with the system. In addition it’s a real diss to kids that fight like hell and get a 3.3 or 3.5 and do really good work. I don’t blame you. I blame parents, counselors, and even colleges for forcing us into this kind of completely crazy system where a 4.0 is considered mediocre. it is complete and total b.s.

Mitch, you make a very good point. I only call it “mediocre” because from other posts I have seen, it seems like a lot of people applying to wake have very high weighted GPAs. I know that it is a solid GPA, but I am just wondering if it is mediocre compared to other wake applicants? (That’s more what I meant by mediocre.) Do you know if there have been kids accepted to wake without a “perfect” gpa or without “straight A’s”? Very sorry if I offended you or anyone.

I think that’s a solid GPA and SAT score. Wake looks at more than just grades. They’re looking for fit, and the interview is more important in that regard than most places. The ED at Wake is unusual too in that you can apply in July and hear back within a month or so. Not sure what the stats are on those early, early applications, but logic would say they like that kind of commitment.

Thanks for the info! Do you know if there’s a disadvantage in applying ED in October versus in July?
Also, any tips on the interview?

If I get mostly Bs with a few As (in all honors/AP) is this a big problem for applying ED or no? Any advice is appreciated!
