Hello all!

It's a little early, however, I'd like to get some opinions on my chances of getting into NC State's Econ Grad Program (if all goes well).

I will be applying to the NCSU Masters program next Spring.

-Graduate of Western Kentucky University
B.A. Economics and Sociology

-GPA: 3.1 (low, I know).

I had a rough year filled with some personal issues which affected my grades. I performed poorly in some courses (including a couple of econ courses). I retook the classes and did much better in all of them, however, my school does averages the grades and they do not disappear from transcripts.

-While waiting a year to acquire residency in NC, I will be taking Calculus I and II at Wake Tech Community College to fulfill the last requirements for the grad program.

-I was a member of Western's national champion speech and debate team for 3 years and have also worked an average of 30 hours a week at a retail store.

-I will receive excellent recommendation letters, including one from the head of Western's Econ Department, who is a graduate of NC State University, and former student of NCSU's department head (my department head has also offered to send an email or make a phone call on my behalf).

-I have yet to take the GRE, but I've already started studying for it. I know that I can do very well on the exam.

I will be visiting the NCSU campus this week, and meeting with the programs faculty and students. I would really love to get into this program, but I know that my gpa is very low. Given that I do well on the GRE and my calculus courses, do you guys think I might have a shot? Thanks in advance for any input.
