I’m currently a junior and have already pretty much made up my mind about my top choice schools. I was hoping someone could tell me if, with what I’ve accomplished so far, I’m on a good track to get into any of them.
-GPA: 3.98 (unweighted). Will be a little above a 4.2 by the time I graduate (hopefully)
-Top 10-15% of my high school class (not totally sure). I attend a notoriously rigorous arts magnet school in Atlanta, so I was wondering if colleges will take this into consideration when looking at my class rank and GPA.
-1420 SAT
-I plan to have taken 7 or 8 of the 8 AP classes available to me by the time I graduate
-School Year Extracurricular:
-Mock trial, 9-12,
-Fall, winter, and spring school theatre productions + thespian activities, 9-12
-Gay Straight Alliance, 9-12
-newspaper 9-12 (editor 11+12)
-SGA (Student Government Association), treasurer, 10th
-screenwriting, playwriting, running my film blog- 10th-12th, 1 to 2 hrs a week, could I even include this? It’s something I’m very passionate about and enjoy doing. I have had 4 of my plays performed at school and two different produced short screenplays.
-SPA (Students of the Performing Arts) Board. (11+12, creative writing department representative)
-church youth group/choir- 9-12th, 4 hrs a week
-history club (vice president)
-Beta Club (community service), 9-12 (secretary 11+12)
-VOX (teen-run communications/film/journalism program) 10-12
Past Summer Activities:
-3 week choir intensive
-pool management (payed job) 15 hrs a week, all summer
- 4 week George Governor’s Honors Program, studying social studies and communicative arts. the program only accepts 2-5% of all nominees. highly selective
-interning at Fox Casting and Crazy Legs Production Company
Hopefully this upcoming summer I will be interning at a local theatre company and/or participating in a 3 week playwriting program (very selective). I also plan to join the board for the Atlanta Film Festival my senior year.
Please tell me what you think!
FYI: Other schools I’m considering include Emerson College, American University, DePaul, and Northeastern, so if you know anything about their stats, let me know!
