Chance me please, Comp Sci and Engineering

Applied for Comp sci and Computer engineering yesterday.
Nervous, because my scores are not that high compared to others.
Sat 1900
Math + CR : 1340
Gpa: 3.92 weighted, 3.75 unweighted
So nervous.

Your SAT is low compared to the average, but that’s not automatically a deal-breaker. You have a good GPA, and if the rest of your application is solid I would say you have a decent chance, especially if you’re in-state.

Out of state though…

While your SAT is lower than the average, don’t feel discouraged! I know people that have gotten in with lower SAT scores than you. Also, your GPA is quite strong (it fits the A-average standard GaTech has).

If i take pre-calc. Can i still get in?

94% of freshmen have taken AP Calculus or its equivalent.

See here: http://admission.gatech.edu/images/pdf/2015_freshman_profile_web.pdf

It’s not impossible per se, but it seems safe to say Pre-calc as your highest math isn’t going to help the cause (?).

I already submitted, but is there any way to let them know i might take calc summer courses?

I’m not sure - hopefully someone will chime in with an idea. Maybe you could contact your GT admissions rep and ask that question.

Also, talk with your guidance counselor - if you start a course after you graduate from high school you could (in some situations - not all) jeopardize your “first time in college” status. That may or may not be a problem but at least ask the question. You don’t want to be considered a transfer student (unless that’s what you’re actually thinking of doing).

So . . . talk to GC.

haha thank you so much :stuck_out_tongue:

At this point, your decision has already been made and there’s not much you can do to let admissions know of your plans to take calc over the summer. That being said, if you are deferred then I would bet that you can inform them of your situation before the application is reevaluated.

I applied regular tho, just a couple days ago.

Then I would definitely try to reach out to them. There’s still plenty of time.
