Hey, I'm applying to Mount Holyoke and Smith, just wondering what my chances are!
GPA: 3.782 (unweighted)
SAT: 1730 (but I might tell them not to consider my sat scores)

I take AP English and AP Gov.

Extracurriculars: Varsity bball for two years. Volleyball for one year. Varsity Tennis for two years. Play production for three years. Went to mexico and volunteered at an orphanage for two weeks. I play the guitar and sing. I plan and play at my school's open mics for the last four years. I am in the Japanese club, the literary journal club, and the science club. I am also gay and wrote an essay about that.

Writing about sexual affiliation isn’t good. Unless it actually relates to something uncontroversial or something that is actually about personality. Otherwise, talking about being homosexual and how people make fun of you, or whatever, is a REALLY bad idea.

You should be fine and I like your idea for the essay, despite what wofbharatj said.
EC’s are nice, GPA in their range. you could send or keep your SAT’s, i dont think it’ll effect you that much either way. have fun next year!!! good luck!

What I meant was that stating your sexual affiliation should not make your essay sound like a sob story of you being bullied and such, just like an immigrant saying they were bullied. It just doesn’t really bring out the best essays. But if you use it to talk about something else, like culture or, in your case, humorous misunderstandings, then it’s fine.
