Chance me please..thank you!

Hi, I am thinking to apply Georgetown university. Please chance me.My stats are:
GPA : 3.6/4 un-weighted
ACT: 30 (36M 30S 28E 25R)
SAT Subject test scores: 800 physics, 800 math level 2, 790 chemistry
I have a silver medal of international physics olympiad(IPO).
Iwas the national winner of national physics olympiad.
I have taught in one of the community schools of my area, and i have few other eca's.
I'm in top 5% of the graduating class.

And what do you guys think are my safeties?

haha i’ll comment buddy. alright i think you have amazing subject tests and a decent ACT score. The ACT score might bring you down a bit but its not a major set back. What college are you applying to? I think you have a pretty decent chance at getting acceptance because you’re quite unique because of the physics. Good luck. Dont let the ACT score bring you down because i have a 1340 on the SAT (composite) and idk i kinda have hope… so best of luck

Getting 200 views without comments isn’t rare, but I guess impatience isn’t either. I doubt you will be accepted with a 3.4 uw GPA. It is possible, considering rank and subject tests, but the GPA would be an indicator of unused potential.

You are a unique candidate for Georgetown. The GPA is a major setback. The subject tests, however, could get you by. What are you planning to major in?

I’m not sure…especially as an international, you’re going to have some very tough competition. I think you have a shot but I would say it’s a reach.

Nor is it rare for forum members to mis-read others’ posts. The OP has a 3.6 UW GPA and is top 5% of his/her class. So, I’m not sure that’s “unused potential”. In a lot of schools, being top 5% will get you a 3.9 GPA.

Clearly, Math and Physics are your strong suit. The application may play better at a school more geared for them - say MIT, Cal Tech, Harvey Mudd, etc. But GU may well like to have an obvious star like this for its own program. If the application shows that the student plans on pursuing these fields, I think there’s a good chance. On the other hand, if you say, “Gee, I’m burned out on math and want to get started on my career as a romance novelist…” well, they may not be so kind in the admissions office.

^I actually agree. I overlooked the top 5% of class. Usually, when we see 3.6 or anything lower, we think that the chances are very low, but obviously in your case a 3.6 is a good GPA.

The courses are much difficult in our country.

@Wizkid94: I am planning to major in Physics.

Why would you want to major in physics at GU? As a former student there, I liked it very much but the physics facilities are second class and the undergrad science department is known for pre-med and not much else. In the mid-Atlantic, JHU or Carnegie Mellon would be much better bets for physics.

@muckdogs07:I am in serious need of financial aid as well , and know that Carnegie mellOn does not provide aid to international. As for JHU, it requires ACT plus writing, but I only did ACT. Can you please suggest me some more colleges with those stats?

I would look at University of Maryland, College Park. They have multiple professors who have won Nobel Prizes in physics, and their Physics Department owns and operates the world’s largest isochronous synchrocyclotron. It is easier to get in to than Georgetown, and it has far more resources and a more established Physics Department.

@saman42:What to do dude…financial aid matters , U o Maryland doesnot provide financial aid to internationals.

No msz since applying. Is this the same problem with you guys?
