To briefly explain my situation, Im a freshman at the College of William and Mary, and Im trying to transfer mostly due to financial issue.

School that Im applying: (total 6)

Dartmouth College
McGill University
UNC-Chapel Hill
Wellesley College
Amherst College
Middlebury College

I cant afford most of them if I dont get a financial aid. Im just worried that it will be a total waste of time filling out all the applications.
I didnt have time to retake SAT, but I was also wondering if its a good idea to take a gap semester (fall of 2009) and retake SAT, and shoot for transferring on spring of 2010. So that way, I can have time to boost up my SAT score and the chances of getting into those competitive schools.
Plan B for me is to go to step down schools, such as SUNY-Bing, etc, but I know I wont be satisfied.

If you guys have any advice, criticism, or other school options, please let me know.

if your applying for spring '10, then you only have one semesters more worth of grades to boost your gpa…you may want to postpone transferring even farther than that if you want to get into those schools

all of those schools are way out of reach for you at this point, you need to be more realistic with your situation…colleges of those caliber arent about accept a student who just got a 3.0 during his first semester at college…if you really want out, your going to have to accept that your going to be going to a lesser school

James Madison University is REALLY cheap, and you wouldn’t have to leave VA. I don’t think any of the schools you’d like to go to would give you financial aid.

I’m also a freshman at William & Mary and am applying for fall 2009 transfer because of the cost. Even though it is a public school, there is almost no financial aid and due to the present state of the country my college fund has also disappeared, forcing me to apply to schools that might give me financial aid as well.
