Other/hooks:
I am an African American male, (This could help my chances I hope...)
I am very passionate about the world and international issues, I spent the majority of the first four years of my life in Saudi Arabia and Turkey, even though I was young this drove me at a young age to want to make a difference in the world.
So what are my chances?

You and I have the same GPA (my ACT is a few points higher) and I’m applying early!

If you want my honest opinion, I really don’t think being African American will really help that much. Yes, you are a minority, but if you think they will take pity or allow lower stats just because of your ethnicity, you’d be mistakenly wrong. That’s what I think is wrong with college admissions today–*people are too worried about their ethnicity and how it will help admissions. The most deserving students should be accepted, period.

Sorry about that tangent. It will really be about how you present yourself in the application. Don’t be too worried about your ACT–*really, it isn’t everything. Write good essays and you could be competitive.

Neat, your chances are probably better than average. Geography and ethnicity will be somewhat in your favor. Your grades are fine. If you can improve your score and your essays and recommendations provide a coherent picture of who you are you should be an attractive candidate.

@mathmom and theNDhopeful44, Thank you for responding.

Definitely apply! I think you have a great application. Obviously, no one is a lock, but you have a good shot if can write quality essays!

Being African American and from Arkansas will both help some, but think about applying early if you want to improve your chances even more!
