Chance Me Please!

Hi all. I applied to Northeastern as a Political Science major in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities. I go to a competitive high school in New Jersey. I scored a 1930 on my SATs (W:670 CR:650 M:610) I have a 3.5 GPA with an upward trend. (Freshman: 2.97 Sophomore: 3.38 Junior: 3.875 and Senior Mid Year of 4.01) I'm taking 3 AP's this year. I have solid EC's and very good work experience. All responses are much appreciated thank you everyone!

You’re definitely not a lock. Your GPA isn’t very good and your SAT is okay, nothing great. Hard to make anything of your GPA without knowing weighted/unweighted, your transcript/rigor, etc. Also I don’t know if you have any leadership experience in your EC’s.

I would say it’s more likely you’re not admitted than admitted, or maybe they’ll put you in the NUin program for students on the bubble. But hey, I’m just some kid on the Internet, so take this with a grain of salt; I’d love to see you prove me wrong!

Thanks, I really appreciate your response. I am definitely considering it a high match/low reach. I am an executive officer in my school’s FBLA chapter. I’ll posty decision when it is recieved.

I wish you all the best!

I got in with an ACT of 28 (which is similar to a SAT of 1930 according to google) and a 3.4 gpa (plus a C in AB calc). I got a D last year but throughout high school my weighted gpa has been between 3.5 and 4.2(i think unweighted would be a range of 3.2 to 3.8). I’ve taken mostly honors and a total of 4 AP classes (Cs in two of them). My ECs aren’t great but I’ve done a lot of community service. Also i had the worst grades my junior year, a D and two Cs.

Your freshman gpa isn’t great but I’m sure they will consider it as a change in structure that you adjusted too and it can be seen as it improved. I think you have a chance! Most likely, from an academic perspective, it’ll come down to your essay.

I’m also a senior in high school and nervous about getting into my top/dream school, which is a high reach. Good luck to you! Be confident!!
