Hi. My dream college is Lafayette but I'm not sure I'll be able to get in with my SAT scores. Everything else on my transcript is in line with what they accept with the exception of my SATs. I would hate for that to be the reason they deny me. Could anyone chance me please?

Gpa: I'm not sure on a 4.0 scale but it's a 95.5 UW, 99.8 W and I think if you take out the non academic classes it's more like a 93.
SATs: CR- 540 (this is the section I'm most worried about), M-620, W-650 (I just retook them but the score aren't coming back until Oct 28th and I don't think I did much better)
Classes:
Freshman year- all honors (geometry, earth science, English, global history, Spanish)
Sophomore year- AP euro, honors English, non advanced math (algebra/trig) and non advanced chemistry, honors Spanish
JR year- AP bio, AP comp, AP US, non advanced math (precalc), pre AP Spanish
Senior year- Honors physics, Non advanced calculus and Spanish, And honors English and social studies

Extra curriculars-
Orchestra- violin- All State (NY), all county, various school orchestras, several awards from my school for this, and an orchestra program I do over the summer
Varsity swimming-4 years - captain
Varsity gymnastics-3 years
National honors society-2 years
Tri m music honors society-4 years
Key club- 4 years
Environmental club- 3 years
Possibly science honors society if I get accepted which I should find out soon
Several others but that's the basis

I have an interview scheduled and I'm doing the "leopard for a day". I want to apply early decision but I'm going to take the ACT and I hope I do a little better on that. Should I apply early decision one with bad SAT scores or do early decision 2 with hopefully a better ACT score but I talked to my admissions rep and she said applying early decision 2 doesn't give you as much of an advantage as ED 1. Please help me! Thanks :)

I’m not so well versed in “chancing” people, but this link might help you get an idea.

http://www.lafayette.edu/about/lafayette-at-a-glance/entering-class-profile/

If you want even more detailed statistics, check the Common Data Sets from the past few years here:

I’d think section C would be of more interest to you than most. While numbers aren’t everything, this might give you an idea of where you stand with regards to a typical Lafayette student.

Thanks a lot That was very helpful. Can anyone else give me info or chance me???

If you really want to come here, apply ED1 and show as much interest as possible (tours, interview, etc.). I knew Lafayette was my first choice and came on several visits as well as an interview then applied ED1 and was accepted, but some of my friends with much better grades and applications just applied as a backup and did not get in because they showed no prior interest. Just quickly glancing over your story, I don’t think you would have a problem getting in here if your Common App responses explain why these activities are importnt to you and/or why you want to become a Leopard in a unique way.

Thanks a lot I took a tour, scheduled an interview and a day visit with a student and I also talked to my admissions representative when she visited my school so I’m definitely showing that I have a lot of interest in going to lafayette. Just wondering, what were your SAT scores like if you wouldn’t mind sharing? I’m pretty confident I would be able to get in based on my grades and the classes I took, but my SATs are the main factor that concerns me.

My class schedule and extracurriculars were not as heavy as yours, but the first time I took the SATs, I got a 670 on each section…I slightly improved on two sections and drastically dropped on the other section the second time I took them, but they take your best section scores from any test you took to comprise your “super score”.

Don’t worry too much on test scores. They’re just numbers. There’s a lot more into an application than just your scores. You, as a person, matter a lot more than what you can get on some test that’s pretty much outdated. As maurielh mentioned, show interest. Seems like you’re already doing a lot of that.

Ok thanks to everyone that responded I really appreciate it
