Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?
The biggest challenge I have faced is the feeling and thought of being completely alone. Having no one to rely on or be vulnerable terrifies me because it has happened to me before. It is more than just being alone though, it is the consequences that come with it. The emptiness, the apathy and morbid attitude towards life is one thing that no one should go through. It tears you apart quietly and slowly until you are a small whisper in a shell. This happened to me from the time I was first bullied in elementary school and the repercussions extended far beyond when it ended in middle school. I was resentful to everyone around me and in turn I resented everyone. I did not allow myself to speak for fear of embarrassment and instead threw myself to where I had the greatest strength, academics. Getting good grades were an easy task and whenever I performed well I got a high for a while. However, whenever I slipped up and got even a small word of criticism or worse a bad grade, I turned into a mess, full of doubts and hate. It was never enough so I had to keep working harder and harder until I was on the edge of burning out. I would not be able to pinpoint exactly what caused it but in a truly cathartic event, I gave up. I gave up on dwelling on the past and on not being perfect and was able to breathe a little. It was time to move on with my life. It wasn’t a total 180, but a hesitant breath all caused by finding the small things I loved, a song, a place a piece of hope. My change wasn’t brought on by myself, but instead a gentle push from an outside force, such as, my parents and meeting true friends. After that moment, I forgave the people who hurt me and allowed myself to enjoy my happiness. Though sometimes it still hurts, I feel a new pathway and purpose in my life.

I am also half African american and half Latina and a military dependent

UC’s do not consider race/ethnicity in their admisiion decisions. Also do not post essays on a public website since they can be plagarized, too late now.
Intended major?

sorry i didn’t think about plagiarism . My intended major is Biology with an alternate of biochemistry

Have someone go over your essay for feedback, there just are only a few errors, but your scores look fine. Good luck! Have back up colleges in case you don’t get accepted, but it seems like you will be.

I think you’ll be accepted as undeclared at UCSD. With your stats you would be a lock for SDSU or UCR in your major. It’s so stressful waiting on the decisions. Good luck!

Your UC GPA is below the 25th percentile for UCSD (4.04 - 4.28). Your SAT score is in-range but low for Biology.

I think UCSD is a Low Reach for Biology and Biochemistry but do have a chance for an acceptance as Undeclared.

Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19
UCSD: 44%

Hopefully you applied widely and have some solid Match and Safety schools on your list.
