95% in 10th (Top 10 out of 400 students)
Student Council
Google Code In Winner (Coding contest to encourage open source - going to google HQ in Cali this summer )
Organising a free to attend technological fest for high-schoolers in my city to create awareness about cs(600 applications expected)
11th grade marks are low (70%) which is bad but I am pretty sure I can explain those.
Interning at sort of successful startup this summer, based in New York. (But it was founded in my city, so I’ll be working from home to develop standalone apps like a wallet based on blockchain etc)
Scouts and Guides member (5+ volunteer hours/week for 5+ years. attended camps, qualified all three exams to be a certified Girl Guide.)
Trained classical dancer (5+ years)
Self-taught proficient programmer
Badminton player (doesn’t count for much in US I guess…) but state champion, got a chance to go to nationals but couldn’t make it due to “National Exams”
Got accepted to Wolfram Alpha’s technology summer camp in computational research for this summer which accepts 45 students/year (still unsure whether I can attend though, will be needing some financial aid)
Present high school - Super competitive (best one in the state - had 3000+ applications, I was in top 50 and got placed in a “special” section)
SAT Score - not taken yet, I know it’s late but I decided on applying to US colleges only towards the end of last year- but I am optimistic
And that’s about it.
Honest(and harsh criticism) welcome
I do not think you are approaching this process with the necessary rigor. Here are a few comments that you may not want to read…
–You don’t seem to understand how exceedingly competitive it is to get into a top US college. And it is exponentially harder for an international from an over-represented country who needs financial aid and is looking to get into one of the most competitive majors.
–You decided to apply to US colleges the end of last year but have not yet taken the necessary standardized tests. It is unrealistic to ask for anyone to chance you for any college without these exams.
–In another post you said you advisor recommended Drexel based on your grades. Yet you are asking to be chanced for two of the most competitive colleges in the country. You need to listen to advice. Despite the fact that you decided to apply to US colleges last year it seems that you have not researched American colleges beyond the most obvious/competitive ones.
–It is quite possible your junior year grades will knock you out of contention for the most rigorous colleges like Caltech and Cornell. Those schools have acceptance rates well under 15% and are reaches for anyone. They routinely turn away candidates with perfect grades, perfect test scores, and great activities. There is simply not enough room for all of the well qualified applicants.
–Your best bet for college is in your home country yet you said in another post that you have not rigorously prepared for those exams. You said yourself that the preparation requires time and commitment. I suggest you take these exams very seriously and do the hard work needed to do your best on them. I understand the interest in American schools but your home country is may be the best chance for an affordable college education.
