Do you really want to attend Bucknell? Is it your first choice?

Your stats and extra curriculars look good and I think give you a chance at Bucknell. But if you have no passion, then maybe not. And i have no idea if they will come up with $30000.

Hmmm what do you mean if I have no passion?
No Bucknell is not my first choice! I want Dartmouth but my sat is too Low for it. So Bucknell will be my second option.
And I know financial aid is going to be a problem :(

I guess what I meant is, do you really want to go to Bucknell? It doesn’t have to be your first choice. But it shouldn’t be just a dart throw, i.e. what US school will accept me and give me money.

Why do you want to attend Bucknell?

I do wanna attend Bucknell!
It’s one of the few liberal arts education schools with engineering. Thus by enrolling at Bucknell i’ll be exposed to both kinds of education. And i’d love that.
Also it’s very well reputed!

And I do not care much about the location since I come from a very small town too.

You may want to try Holy Cross. They are ranked the same as Bucknell by US News and Holy Cross has a 3/2 program with Columbia engineering which i am in . You can get both a liberal arts degree from Holy Cross and an engineering degree from Columbia

Oh well I guess I’ll have to transfer then
I have applied in Carleton as well. I think it too has a dual degree program with Columbia.
I would go to a college that gives me good financial aid. So if I go to Columbia for the dual degree program would I be given financial aid there too?

This feedback may be too late. But here it is any way.

You are a Pakistani national. Are you actually going to HS in Pakistan now? Or, are you going to high school in USA? If so, are you a green card holder (permanent resident).

It is usually difficult to get financial aid as a foreign national. Some schools treat permanent resident same as US citizen: same financial aid policy. Some schools do NOT. In this case, getting a financial aid will not be easy. Some schools provide financial aid regardless of the nationality (US citizen or not) based on need. However, these kind of schools are rare (MIT is one).

If you are going to HS in USA now, your score needs to be higher for merit award in top schools even if they provide financial aid for foreign nationals: check and see if you are roughly within top 10 % range of the schools incoming freshmen stats. If you are going to HS in Pakistan, they may consider the “language proficiency issue” as a mitigating factor in evaluating your qualification as an applicant seeking merit based financial aids.

My impression is, in general, as a foreign students, it’s easier to get the merit scholarship as opposed need based financial aid. The schools have an incentive to get foreign national students with tippy top scores to boost their admissions stats.

I don’t know if this helps at all: given that all you can do now is to wait for the decisions.

Before you applied, did you check if the schools you applied to provide financial aid to foreign nationals? Usually, they have a policy and they don’t hide it from the prospective students.
