Hello please help.I'm an African student applying to the following schools:
Cornell University
John Hopkins University
Wesleyan University
Swath more University
Lafayette University
Lehigh University
Bates College
Wake Forest University
Trinity College
Trinity University
Berea College

SAT 1: Maths 700 CR 570 WR 710 SAT 2: Maths I 740(might not report this one) Maths II 790 Physics 790
I have very good essays that clearly portray my personality .Few extracurricular activities that I'm very passionate about. My GPA is 4.0/ 4.0 .I ranked consistently 1 throughout high school.I have gone for numerous science competitions ;representing my country in many recognized science olympiads.I was even granted an interview by the best selling newspaper company in my country.I am submitting very good art supplements.

What do you think my chances are to the schools I'm applying to? Lafayette is my top choice and I'm applying ED there .I also need financial aid as my parents cannot afford anything more than $15,000-$16,000 per year.I know my CR is low,but there's not much I can do about it now for Lafayette since their deadline is Nov.15.Please I would appreciate any discussion.Thanks.

Hello so you’re saying I’m totally hopeless?I like Lafayette very much that’s why I’m going for ED there.I have many more ECs than the ones I mentioned. For example, I helped fight the Ebola virus in my church. Please tell me what to do.I plan on rewriting the SAT in January. But Lafayette is out of it.I think I’m a good student and my SAT score is low because of my poor background. There is not much focus on English language for science students in my country. In addition,I’m not a good test taker. Please give me an advice.Thanks.

What 1939er is trying to tell you is that the schools are competitive, especially for international students. So a score of 1980 would be okay for a US student but as an international student, it is not competitive for merit aid. You might get in, but you would be full pay.

So there’s no hope for a student like me?

Bump.I dont really like the way no one seems interested in my questions.I’m beginning to give up on collegeconfidential…

You’ve gotten your responses and any further answers will be similar:

People will tell you that your scores are not high enough to get merit aid (financial aid). That is the reality. No amount of EC’s can change your scores. You might be able to get into some public universities but you will be paying full fees.

So it is not as dramatic as you have repeatedly said, as in “hopeless” because you can probably gain entry somewhere, but you will have to pay for that education. No one said anything would be free.
