Alrighty folks, I am a college sophomore, and I am DYING to get into UCB’s CNR as a Microbial Biology transfer. I attended UCSB as a freshman (3.58 GPA), but I left the school after some unpredicted financial and health misfortunes. I am considered a pre-medical student; I was an executive on the pre-med board and I volunteered at a local hospital for awhile. Additionally, I was an exec on my dorm’s hall council, and since coming home to community college, I started my own CPR non-profit. I’ve worked a multitude of jobs throughout the years, and I explained a few poorer grades (a C+ in general chemistry) as a result of health stressors at the time. In my application, I mentioned that I am currently interviewing for a biomedical research position at an acclaimed local lab, but I’m just not sure if my GPA will be enough to get me in. I am hell-bent on conducting undergrad research, and I think that really came across in my essays. Hopefully, the admissions officers can see my passion through my essays and extracurriculars?
WOW thank you this is so helpful
Okay, I have an additional question: my grades from this past semester at a CC just arrived (4.0! Wahoo!!), and I am unsure how to calculate my new GPA. Semester units are worth more than quarter units, and I am a bit confused on how to account for this. For example, my UCSB GPA (3.58) is worth 45 quarter units, and my CC GPA (4.0) is worth 15 semester units).
