This is for “students admitted for the Vanderbilt class of 2013.”

Middle 50% SAT Reasoning (M+CR): 1400 - 1560

You have a 640 + 590 = 1230, which is very low. I know test scores aren’t everything and Vanderbilt “strongly in the merits of a truly holistic review process for admission”, but I am of the belief that while high test scores will not get you in, low test scores can keep you out. Judging from below-average AP and SAT test scores, for Vanderbilt standards (I know average on SAT is about 1000 nationally and probably around a 3 on each AP exam) and you high GPA, either your unspecified severe mental illness is truly at work or your high school isn’t that hard.

“AP Art Student of the Year” And you got a 3 on the exam? Almost every person in my AP 2-D Art class in high school got a 5, but then again, I went to an Art magnet so that’s probably apples and oranges. You have a lot of EC’s… try and figure out which one’s you’ll put on the Common App.

Taking almost all of the AP classes offered by your school will help. ED1 is probably your best bet. Vanderbilt doesn’t release ED1 or 2 stats separately, but together last year, the average score was 1330-1480, so you’ll have a much better chance (I know scores aren’t everything, but I imagine the EC’s, recs, essays, etc. weren’t as amazing for ED than RD). I’d say Vanderbilt is probably a least a small reach for you, in my very meaningless opinion (I’m not being sarcastic about the meaningless thing, either).
