Please let me know what you think. I am EDing to Penn and if I don't get in, I plan to try Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, Brown, Northwestern, WashU, Hopkins, Rice, CMU, NYU and Rutgers.

Safety: Penn, Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, Brown, Northwestern, WashU, Hopkins, Rice, CMU

Match: NYU

Reach: Rutgers

I’m not here to chance, as it’s against my principles. But it seems like you have no safety schools. Do not underestimate any of those schools you have on there as easy to get in. In recent times, safety schools have become meh, meh have become reach, etc. And how do you know that you are a National Merit Finalist, already? The Finalist applications were due less than a month ago and from what I know, the results don’t come out till next year.

Rutgers was a safety as I have already been admitted honors college with full ride for merit. I may attend there even if I am admitted to Stanford (which I know is a reach for everyone but think I have a shot if I write strong essays). And I got the sarcasm Orbdad. I think:

Safety: Rutgers
Target-Safety: NYU
Target: CMU, Rice (Its easier to get in from the East coast)
Target-reach: Northwestern, WashU, Hopkins
Reach: Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Columbia, Brown

Why’d u ask for other opinions if you already have decided Stanford is a reach?

Probably because he doesn’t assume he knows everything and would like to hear from others.

Stanford is an automatic reach for almost everyone. The exceptions would be well-qualified national/international champions of something (or anyone else whose accomplishments are truly unique to them), and the well-qualified children of the following: faculty, influential politicians/celebrities, people whose donations to the University are in the millions.

The reason why it’s a reach for all the other well-qualified applicants is because Stanford could fill its class three times over with such applicants. Some serendipity goes into deciding who makes the final cut.

but then again that isn’t saying much
