I’m currently viewing these schools as reaches but would like to know if I have a shot at any or if I’m just wasting my time as I plan to start applications late this summer for fall of 2019!

Took a film class at NYU (10) because that’s what I thought I wanted to major in but through that course I realized that route wasn’t for me.
RECS
1 from a teacher I had for honors history freshman year, AP gov junior year, and advises amnesty.
1 from a teacher who I had for honors english sophomore year and again in AP Lang junior year
both these teachers know me very well
Counselor rec is also good
I know it can’t be predicted based on fast facts/stats, but I want to know if I’m wasting my time applying to these colleges as they are my top choices right now. Feel free to leave realistic options down below if these are too unrealistic.
I’m not sure about Scripps, Bates, and Pitzer, but I was waitlisted at Colgate and Bucknell with very similar stats. If you’re very interested in Bucknell, you should definitely apply Early Decision! Around 10 people ED’d to Bucknell from my school this year and almost everyone got in so they didn’t take many people RD. Since we have very similar stats, some of the schools I was accepted to were Lafayette, University of Richmond, Northeastern, and Boston University. I’m not sure if you’ve looked into Lafayette or Richmond, but I personally liked them much more than Colgate and Bucknell. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck with everything!!!
@collegebound7789 thank you so much for the informative answer!!
I think you should add in some solid safety schools particularly if you need a fair amount of FA. All of your schools are reaches. Definitely worth a shot though.
You will be in the running at all of them, but no guarantees. If you look at Bucknell, you may want to pop over to Franklin and Marshall as well as Dickinson (and maybe Gettysburg. )
When you visit Colgate, check out Union. (Quite a few kids who like Bates like Bard, also in the same neighborhood as Colgate and Union.) All the ones I mentioned have an overlap in feel with the ones you like but are a bit easier to get into.
I like @collegebound7789’s suggestions as well, especially Lafayette.
If there is a way you can bring up your math score, it might help with merit at some of those schools.
You might want to give the SAT a try. Some people find that one test fits their cognitive style better than the other. You seem like you’ll ace the English part on either test, but maybe you’d like the SAT style of math better, and there isn’t a science section.
You’re not wasting your time, but there are no slam dunks there. You have a shot with these, but you need some matches and safeties.
In terms of excellent Los Angeles area LAC’s, have you looked at Occidental?
Any thoughts about what you want to study, now that it’s not film? Something environmental-ish?
Do the Pacific Northwest LAC’s interest you at all? (Whitman, Lewis & Clark, Puget Sound…?)
How about Allegheny?
If Scripps interests you, then how about Mt. Holyoke? They’re generous with merit and part of a consortium as well.
You are a competitive applicant. Your stats and ECs are good. Write great essays and you could get accepted to any of these schools
