Chance me, s'il vous plait :)

hey, so i wanted people to chance me for the class of 2014. My primary interests are politics and the environment.

i finished my IB, and received a diploma with a score of 38.
English HL- 5
Business HL-6
Economics HL- 6
Math SL- 7
french SL- 7
Biology SL- 6
and one bonus point for my EE (B) and TOK. (D)
my average is just over 6 on 7. and my rank was 3.
transcripts for grades 8, 9 and 10 are close to perfect. 11 and 12, are ok. fairly decent. but my parents were getting a separation, dont know if i should include that, itll sound as an excuse, unless my counselor puts it in.

Extra curricular:
- Student council for 4 years, even though i switched schools for my junior and senior years
- Head of Administration for the MUN organised by my School
- Varsity Basketball (5 years)
- State and National Scrabble Player (newspaper coverage included)
- A lot of MUN, : even went for GYLC at New York and D.C.

Ive taken a gap year, purely for pursuing other non academic interests.
Justification of Gap year:
- currently doing a certificate course in 3DS Max animation
- Himalayan expedition of 8 days
- Worked with the All India Institute of Local Self Government ( Regional Centre for Urban and Environment Studies)
- Worked with the Mayor Of Mumbai on a huge environmental project (newspaper coverage included)
- Planning on Working with an IIT Prof, who is also a Green Judge (judge in the national court for environment malpractice)
- French courses at Alliance Francaise, Mumbai

School:
Good letters from Biology teacher(also head of the IB in my school ) and my French teacher.
Additonal rec letter from the Mayor.

No financial aid.

Applying RD.

^because of the gap year work I’d say you have a shot, but coming from India and with a 38 on your IB, your chances are definitely quite slim regular decision. Columbia takes ~10-15 kids from India each year, so it’s difficult for you to be in that top 10-15 applicants in the country.

oh. so do you feel applying ED would increase my chances by a significant amount?

also, Biology SL- 6 ^
sorry.

SAT 1: 2030.
SAT 2: yet to give. im planning to give it in Math IIC, French and Biology.

G.P.A: our school doesn’t calculate it, i’ve in the top 5 out of 90 though.

Yeah applying ED might be your only shot, the problem is that you have a 6,6,5 in your HLs and the 2030 definitely puts you well below the average accepted applicant score wise. Our 25th percentile is at 2100, so 2030 puts you in the ~13th percentile. (most people below you would be recruited athletes, urms with great ECs and others who have moved the earth) Columbia needs a compelling reason to take you, you still have a shot, but ED might be your only viable route to Columbia.

what if my SAT score improve significantly, say, 2200?
because i have worked very hard on it this year.

better chance for sure.

thanks ! ill def try my best to get it.
