Don’t be harsh on me
Hello everyone,am applying to George School and Taft as a Junior which I know is very competitive.
I am 16 years old and am a Jamaican Native.
I attened the top all boy school in the Island both academically and sports wise, our country’s sporting program dont categorize base on gender so yes its the best sports school islandwide.
I did the SSAT- 81 percentile
I play soccer, been playing since grade 2 so 9 years.I played for my primary school team from grade 4-6 which is where primary school stops and high school starts.I once scored 5 goals in 1 match in primary school.I made my high school U-14 team in my first year 1 of only 2 boys in grade 7 on the team,me and my friend who is now at TAFT.We went to the islnad semi-final that year and I also played u-16 too semi-final one year again and lost.
I also do alot of community service with a local charity organization like Food for the Poor and also at a local homeless men drop-in center.done 24 hours of community service since the start of the year 2018.
Oh also am a Government scholarship winner, went to my high school with the highest average on the GSAT 98.8%,basically a grade 6 standardized test for high school admission.
I have been on my school honor roll for the last 5 years of high school announced 3 times per year only fell off 2 times.
My grades last term fell to a 74% average due to our exam grades on the report being the mock exam for our upcoming standardized Caribbean test CSEC which we havent finished the syllabus.
My subjects are:CHEMISTRY,PHYSICS,BIO,ECONOMICS,GEOGRAPHY,ENGLISH,PRINCIPLE OF BUSINESS and SOCIAL STUDIES.
On my essay i wrote about my experience doing community service and how it has shaped me as a person.
I also dont do math anymore as I did the regional math exam a year earlier than recommended and got the highest achieveable grade.
I think that the school system in Jamaica is as rigorus as the top boarding schools as Jamaica has one of the best education systems up to high school
I am also applying for alot of financial aid which I know will hurt my chances but I think I have made friends with the AO at George school as he helped me with the process during weekends and we talked about football(soccer) over the interview and cracked a few jokes. Also at Taft i made my friend put in a word for me with the soccer coach and tell him about my great soccer abilities.
Ok- and 81 is alright. I am also applying to Taft. At least you got higher than a 75, which is important. I would make sure your interview goes well, make sure to appear well rounded. Good luck!
Are you applying for September 2019? You sound like you’d be a great fit for George! They are all about creating “global citizens” and your interest in service aligns well with their values and programs. Have you talked to the soccer coach there?
