Chance me to Case Western Engineering (electrical engineering)

Im gonna apply either as an electrical engineer with my 2nd choice as accounting. i live in california and am indian.

SAT : 2130, Verbal:640, Math:740, Writing: 750
SAT II: Math 2:780, Chem: 760
AP Scores: Chemistry-4, US History-4, Calc AB (I did not take the class and didnt study. I needed to take the test for some program, and I got a 3, but hopefully it wont weigh as much because I didnt take the class yet)

GPA/Grades.
My GPA is 3.75 so far unweighted. (should i apply regular decision because i can get my gpa up to 3.79)
I am still a junior
my school doesnt rank, but im around the 70th percentile.

Laboratory Science (AP Chemistry) - A/A
Language Other Than English (Spanish III) - A/B
International Business A/A

12th grade:

I am doing a program called College Now, where I take all my classes at a local community college and get both high school and college credit. By the end of senior year I will finish approx. 60 quarter hours (40 semester hours), but Case will only consider about 47 credit hours b/c 13 of my college credits will also count as high school credits and Case wont count those. So this is approximately 13 college classes that I will have taken at the end of senior year.

Extra Curricular:

Marketing Internship at Sgrouples
Co Produced a documentary with students in local film school
Treasurer at high school cinema club
200 ish volunteer hours
Job shadowed financial analysts
Tutored lots of people (chem and math)
Helped disabled people at my community college in their classes (took notes for them, helped them outside of class mainly)
I know my EC's are weak. (they arent engineering related

Thank you for your time!

Your stats are right on for Case…just wanted to let you know that you don’t apply for any particular major- they have an open door policy. If you get in you are in to any major you want (nursing may be the exception).

@Sdgal2‌ thanks! i didnt know that.

Consider retaking calculus in college, even if it is possible to get credit.

@colorado_mom‌ why do you say that?

Because “Calc AB (I did not take the class and didnt study. I needed to take the test for some program, and I got a 3, but hopefully it wont weigh as much because I didnt take the class yet)”…so if you haven’t taken a calculus class yet, you should because everything builds on that.

@bopper‌ @colorado_mom‌ I am taking calc A,B,C,and D (equivalent to all calc levels at a traditional 4 year) at community college. sorry i forgot to mention it in the thread.

Is that through multi-variable calculus?

@bopper‌ here are the class description for each level:

Calc A: Fundamentals of differential calculus (im taking this this quarter)
Calc B: Fundamentals of integral calculus (next quarter)
Calc C: Infinite series, lines and surfaces in three dimensions, vectors in two and three dimensions, parametric equations of curves. Derivatives and integrals of vector functions. (spring quarter)
Calc D: Partial derivatives, multiple integrals, vector calculus (i might take in summer or not take it at all and just take it at college i am required to.

Our college also offer differential calc and linear algebra in addition to calc but i wont have time to take those. Based on those descriptions, do you think they include multi-variable calculus? All these levels transfer to the UC and CSU systems and if i take calc a-d, then i wont have to take calc at a UC, but idk if they are multivariable calculus.

I am not exactly sure…but given that you have taken some calculus you will be well on your way. I think they have a math placement test that will tell you where you should be placed or they will use your college info to place you. Multiple integrals sounds like it could be multi-variable calculus.

You can’t get credit for a 3 on Calculus AB anyway.

Historically I would say that you have a good chance of admission. However, last year’s admissions were a bit skewed in that many candidates with credentials similar to yours were waitlisted. You can probably find those threads in this subforum with a quick search.

As for math, Case will not give you credit for a 3 on Calc AB, and strongly suggests that students who get a 4 retake the class. From the first year registration guide:

*Students who received a 4 on the AP Calculus AB or BC exams may want to consider repeating Math 121
(AB) or Math 122 (BC). Historically, students with a 4 on either exam have averaged a grade of “C” when
moving ahead to Math 122 (AB) or Math 223 (BC).

@2014novamom‌ thanks for the feedback. and yeah, i would definitly not be comfortable with a 3 as an AP score used to skip classes. I only took the test because i needed it for a program. i am taking calc a,b, and c at a community college so ill have a stronger calc background.
