GPA: 3.8 Weighted, School doesn’t do unweighted. Just outside top 10% of the class at a competitive public school in New England. I realize it’s not ideal (by a long shot). For some sort of reference, on naviance Cornell’s average is a 3.9- 4.1 weighted, as is Hopkins. The 1-3 all don’t have enough applicants from my school to tell me anything, but I get that they’re probably impossible for me. New York University is like a 3.7 average.
9 AP’s, including senior year. All Accelerated (Honors) classes otherwise.
730 Math
770 Reading
740 Writing
= 2240 (One sitting)
800 on Math II, 740 on Chem SAT II
EC’s
1.) Philosophy reading. I don’t know if it counts, but I self-study philosophy. It really is a passion of mine, and I’ve reached out to a few of the professors from some of the school’s above (not for college admissions purposes, just to talk about their work) many times through the past 4 years.
2.) Speech and Debate. Captain,. This past year I made and implemented a brand new curriculum for debaters focused on political philosophy that ended up doubling the number of people that qualified to States. Going to be the topic of my essay. Numerous individual awards…
3.) Model UN
4.) DECA (internationals three times, finalist each time)
5.) Photography (School Club, Newspaper, and business)
6.) Volunteering at a non-profit store.
7.) Volunteering at an art museum (I did a lot of photography for them)
8.) Volunteering at a public library.
9.) Varsity Track and Field (not being recruited)
Assuming best case scenario for essays and rec letters, what are the chances I’ll get into at least 1 school from (#1-5), though I’d like to be chanced for all.

Smart ploy. Yes you got my attention. Actually, Harvard can afford to accept someone with a 2.5 GPA if other aspects of the application suggest that the student could handle Harvard academics and if there are compensatory factors that explain the 2.5 GPA and suggest that the student has outstanding skills in some area. Consider a student attending school in a crime ridden community who has an Olympic medal or who has an incredible invention or who has started a successful business while working full time and going to school. Wouldn’t that be a better bet as someone who will have a positive impact on the world compared to a straight A typical student with 800s from a wealthy family who was provided with everything possible to nurture academic success but who has achieved nothing more? Where are the other accomplishments that getting a financial leg up made time for? So don’t dismiss the idea that someone with a 2.5 could deservedly gain entry to Harvard
Bet ya didn’t expect that to be addressed did ya? In terms of your credentials, they seem strong in general but your choice of schools includes some which expect very strong credentials. I can’t provide probabilities beyond saying you have a good shot at each one. Your ECs comes across a bit like a laundry list but I presume they don’t in your actual application. Given your interest in Philosophy, no Chicago??
Feel free to NOT do gimmicky false titles in the future–I guarantee someone will come in and answer that question instead of the one you actually asked.
Weird, I probably would have answered your question if you’d been honest
As you have obviously outsmarted the rest of us…you can feel free to answer your own question.
Outside of top 10% means your chances are still the same 6-10% everyone qualified applicant (of thousands) have.
You will most likely (By statistics alone) get into one of the colleges on your list however unless you failed on your essay.
title reported to moderator, expect some disciplinary points.
I think you have a pretty solid chance at all of these schools. Realize that going ED at Williams basically sacrifices all other schools in that list…should you get in. So I’m assuming that’s really your first choice? As someone else said earlier, UChicago has a nice program for philosophy so you might want to look into that as a Reach for RD should Williams deny you ED.
(On a separate note, to everyone on this thread: He might have had an inappropriate title, but it got my attention and worked. No need to be a killjoy, guys; it really says a lot about the creativity of these forums when 5/6 of the replies to this thread are bashing on the title rather than attempting to even answer the question at hand. Just report and move on…no need to further the deconstruction that’s happened. )
Don’t kidding around on any of your applications.
I can 100% guarantee that you will get into all of those schools. 100%, you read it right here, on the internet, where anonymous strangers always give great advice to high school students.
