Chance Me: University of Notre Dame

Hey!! I’ll be submitting my ND application soon and I just wanted to get an idea of my chances:

Gender: Female
Ethnicity: White
High School: public, considered a very good public school
Religion: Catholic
Intended Major: Mechanical Engineering

ACT: 34 w/ 10 out of 12 for writing
Weighted Average: 102.61
Unweighted Average: ~96
Class Rank: Top 5% out of about 590, but I don’t think my school includes that on the transcript

Senior Year Classes:
AP Calc BC
AP English Lit and Compostion
Concert Band (have been playing clarinet since 5th grade)
AP Government/AP Economics (each half a year)
AP Chem II
Honors Engineering Design and Development (PLTW)

I’ve taken a total of 13 AP classes and 8 honors and only one college prep class (calculus in 10th grade). After this year, I also would’ve completed the Project Lead the Way program.

AP Scores:
World History (5), Human Geography (5), Physics 1 (4), Calc AB (5), Statistics (4), Language and Composition (5)
Separate Awards:
-AP Scholar with Distinction
-National Merit Scholar Semi-Finalist (finalists have not been listed yet)

ECs:
-President of school’s Technology Student Association (TSA)
-Regional Officer for TSA
-Girl Scouts since 3rd grade
-NHS
-Member of American Red Cross Club (volunteer work)
-Member of club that raises money and does events for special needs kids
-Captain for three years of Odyssey of the Mind team
-Volunteer at my church’s CCD (Sunday school)

Legacies:
My cousin did grad school there, and my cousin and her husband work for the school and their sister school (she’s head of admissions at St. Mary’s, and he’s a lawyer for ND). These definitely aren’t strong legacies (like a sibling or parent) but ND includes them on their applications.

Recs:
The guidance letter is probably pretty standard, but my teacher recommendation is from my AP Human Geo teacher who I’ve talked about Notre Dame with a lot. He catered it specifically to ND based on their mission statement, so I think it’s pretty strong.

Whats your UC GPA?

I can’t do it right now because I don’t have my transcript, but my school doesn’t use the 4.0 GPA. If I had to guess, it’d probably be around a 3.8 unweighted and 4.2 weighted but again, these are estimates using that website you gave me.

I applied to early admission to Notre Dame and got denied. I had a 4.0 on a 4.0 scale, 27 ACT, 1270 SAT, NHS, Finance club, and worked 12 hours on the weekend. Everything looks good, your GPA may hurt a little but with all of the AP classes you should be good. I would say Notre Dame is a good bet for you.

75% chance you’ll be accepted unless you aren’t good at writing essays.
