@runswimyoga Does it say anywhere on the Common App that you can’t (legally) reuse your own writing? I would only be taking an excerpt from a longer piece and changing it pretty substantially, while still staying true to the theme. As of now, it’s not published anywhere because it was only regionally awarded… national results come out tomorrow lol. I’ve definitely seen people post that their Common App essay was awarded in the same competition and it never came to my mind that it may be a problem.
In terms of your academic interests, the descriptions for these writing programs would seem to be worth reading through:

I think you have incredible odds at any ivy. Obviously the ACT score can be improved (and I’m sure you’ll do better) but a 33 is still a solid showing even in the ivy league.
I think you could get into any school you want ED/EA.
Thanks! I agree it’s a bit sad that CC sometimes makes me feel inadequate for having a score that’s still at Yale’s average for my first time haha. Here’s to hoping you’re right on all counts. @wiscomdg
Thanks! I’m going to look into Hopkins as well. @Penn95
@writergirl0316 I tend to believe that your score is great and you don’t have to worry about taking it again if you don’t want to or have the time for it. A 33 gets you consideration at all the schools you plan to apply to(I got one myself). A 33 is able to cross the mental thresholds and match with the constructs of an evaluating admission committee. Again, individual sections are considered at many top schools, even if most don’t superscore. Your E&R and even Math scores remain top notch which doesn’t weaken your narrative. I think this part of your application would be very clear. Don’t worry! You’re great! Focus on subjective things, add depth to any favorite ECs. Get so good that they can’t ignore you! And apply to JHU! There are a lot of opportunities for writers there.
Also, predict my chances at the colleges I applied to?

@hehaotim Thanks! I’m retaking it in April. I think I’d feel more comfortable with a 34, but I’m glad that at least my subscores (E/R/Essay) align with my narrative. I already chanced you on your old thread.
I think you have like a 70% chance of Penn ED, your resume is impressive, especially with the smaller pool of applicants for ed
Yale-reject
Princeton-reject
Brown-accept or waitlist
Georgetown-accept
Vassar-accept
Wellesley-waitlist of accept
Accept everywhere else
Your subjectives are great and nicely pointed towards your intended major, it’s hard to guess the HYP schools because you dont have an SAT score, as long as your ACT science goes up a good amount and you hit a 1520 or above I think you have a good shot at Penn and maybe Brown
With Harvard, Princeton and Yale stellar subject tests might help a considerable amount
Thank you, though I’m not sure why you would need an SAT score… do you mean SAT II? @rowdyfries
Im more familia with the SAT and also becawse you mentioned your ACT was a fluke
Ah yes, I meant that the science score didn’t align with what I was scoring in practice. I know that 33 ACT is Yale’s published average, while Penn’s is 32. @rowdyfries
I’d say accepted no doubt to Boston University, SUNY Geneseo, Emory, Georgetown, Vassar, Wellesley.
Also a pretty big chance for Penn (ED always gets you massive points with schools.)
Harvard and Princeton are ridiculous by all standards, so I’d say a 50/50 on those. You seem like a great candidate but you never know with those.
Brown I’d say probably 70/30 waxing acceptance because it’s probably the least hard-assed of the Ivys.
Good luck!
Thank you! I’m assuming you’d group Yale with HP, or would you say otherwise? @etherealex
I think with an improvement in the ACT science, you could get into any of these. These schools receive tons of applicants that excel in math and science, but not so many that are writers like you. Do remember that spots fill up quickly, so definitely apply early. I would even consider applying to some non-restrictive EA schools, just so that you’ll be a little more relaxed come December.
Chance me back? http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1973053-would-i-get-accepted-to-these-universities.html#latest
Thanks! My marking period just ended – not semester, but the smaller periods we have for progress reports – so the influx of tests and assignments will calm by tomorrow. I am planning on doing science practice tests every night all of this week and next. @emmajay
Penn: Accept
Yale: Waitlist/ Accept
Princeton: Waitlist
Brown: Accept
Harvard: Waitlist/Reject
Boston University: Accept
SUNY Geneseo: Accept
Emory: Accept
Georgetown: Accept
Your GPA is incredible, and if your ACT goes up, you should easily get into most or all of these schools.
Thank you! I’m really hoping that the April test works out for me, though I’m hoping my subscores would help me even if I just submit this one… I’m under the impression that 33 is only below average for Harvard. (Y/Brown/Penn are my top 3.) @vikes40
I think you would get into Penn if you did ED. Also have a feeling that you’ll be accepted to Brown both ED or RD. Good luck!
