Asian female, applied for financial aid, go to a very large & competitive high school in NY
SAT: 1450 (790 M, 660 E)
GPA: 3.65 UW
APs: APUSH, World History, AP Lang, AP lit, AP physics 2, AP Euro (not an AP but i take global business honors too)

Extra Curriculars;

  1. started my own watch company
  2. internship at Transamerica/world financial group
  3. National junior classical league (its a latin thing lol)
  4. Global business summer program
  5. NSLC summer program- business&entrepreneurship
  6. FBLA
  7. Junior achievement (we basically go into elementary schools and teach kids about business)
  8. Developed the brand and packaging for a tongue cleaner
  9. Varsity Volleyball
  10. Volunteer at childrens hospital (300 hrs)

Awards:

  1. Semi finalist for a state wide business comp for my business
  2. finalist for an international business comp
  3. first place in the state for my fbla event
  4. second place for parliamentary procedure for FBLA (regional)
  5. National honors society

Chance threads at a school like USC are a waste of time - it is too holistic for anyone here (including those of us that have had multiple kids admitted) to give you anything other than a guess. Unless someone is something like an Intel Science Fair winner, most ECs seem the same for a solid or high achieving student, just different acronyms. Meaning, they don’t mean much to people outside of admissions - they are the ones that can separate substance from fluff and see if together, with other aspects of the application, they form a solid and well rounded student that fits what they want and need at their school, at that time. Many many variables.
